Default Jacking up JDM nosed ITR from rad support point ok??

Not sure I trust someone else's JDM core support welds to hold the entire weight of my teg. Anyone have some input on whether this is safe to do? We are talking a single floor jack under the center core support point, on a 98 USDM ITR with JDM nose. To put the car on stands using the side points.

Started to try it, but heard some strange sounds, so I stopped. Has a bunch of decent looking welds, but I don't really want to stretch my sheet metal all over if it's weak.

Up until now I've avoided using this jack point for this reason. TIA

Since its not an actual JDM ITR, I don't think there is any way for any of us to determine if *that* is safe...I hope you trust whomever did you bodywork

IMO I wouldn't use it..better safe than sorry...

Cant you use one of the tow hooks up front?

I was feeling the same way, better not to take a chance. The car is *mint*, so I'd hate to start working it. I'd be lifting the whole teg with something like 14-20 welds. I'm not sure that is enough.

I can use the front tow hooks, but I need to check them out more thoroughly - When I looked at them they seemed to be welded to the core support too. Plus, that would mean using two floor jacks, which will mean buying another one ($40 from Harbor Freight so no big deal). I'm thinking putting a twisting load on the core support by jacking only one tow hook will be even worse!

Sigh - I guess it's back to me and the girl jacking the side points with two jacks at the same time.

There is a front jacking point in the middle of the front.

Thanks all, I have a solution.

I think I will just use two jacks for now, one under each front tow hook, as these are on the USDM frame. If I need to, I'll fab a steel bar and bolt it between the tow hooks. Then I can safely lift high with one jack.

I think I can trust the JDM installer, but I don't know for sure. I think it would be ok, but I'm not going to chance it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by B2FiNiTY &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">There is a front jacking point in the middle of the front. </TD></TR></TABLE>

I don't trust the middle front jack point (let me inspect again to be sure). It is on the core support. No good to jack the core if it deforms or the welds crack where it attaches to the frame

The former owner of my R was lucky, and had a lift, so I know it has never been jacked front/center before. Paint's not even scratched there.

Hey Ill-Bill, just use the factory tow hooks to jack up. I've done them one at a time before... the frame is stiff enough to handle it.

Aftermarket JDM front here. I use the radiator support up front every time. Unless your welder is an idiot, it should be ok to jack up. If you are afraid to jack it up, then maybe you should get it redone just in case you get into a real accident. If I didn't trust the core to use as a jack point I wouldn't trust it to absorb the impact from an accident.

Just food for thought.

Note....my front also makes a couple wierd noises while jacking it up. The noise is called metal to metal friction. If it is a creaking noise that's normal too. Just put a small towel in between the jack and the radiator support and the noises should go away.
