My engine is making this awful awful sound. It's coming from the head. It sounded at first like it was coming from the distributor, so I removed the cap, and found nothing unusual. I removed the distributor and also found nothing unusual.
It is definetely coming from that side of the head though. I have not "got on it" since this has started, but the car does run fine. As one should assume, the noise does make me VERY nervous. Please help!

I really don't know how to describe the noise. Its like a rattle. Very fast and erratic. It's loud enough to hear barely from the inside of the car. If you are near the engine, it is very audible.

It almost sounds like valve chatter....
It started a day ago, after I finished replacing my headgasket. Everything was tighened down via spec in the Helms.

No, it's not squeeling.
There is currently Mobile 1 in the engine.
Yes, it sounds remotely like a diesel engine.

The guy whom I work with keeps suggesting that it is the bearing in the distributor or the shaft in the distributor.
The valves are untouched before or after the headgasket replacement, and they were fine prior to it.

Exactly why I was asking about the squealing.
also if the dizzy is going bad it might make a grinding noise, but it's so hard to e-diagnose such things bro.
I wish I could actually hear it, you know?
did you see any reddish dust in the rotor button area under the dizzy cap?

If I didn't have to work all the time, I would definetely have brought it by and let you take a look at it or something. I only live like 20-30 minutes from your shop. I didnt happen to notice that reddish dust that you described though.

EH I GOT A WHITE EX TOO. I FUCKED UP MY CAR WHEN I WAS DOING SOME 0-100. DOUBLE CLUTCHING AND ****. NO WHAT I MEAN? I WAS PUSHING IT AND I GUESS THE PRESSURE JUST BLEW THE HEADER SCREWS KINDA LOOSE. TRY TAKING THE HEAT SHEILD OFF OF THE HEADER. PLACE YOUR HAND AROUND THE LOWER HEADER AND REV THE ENGINE. IF YOU FEEL A SLIGHT BREEZE OF AIR, ITS THE HEADER SCREWS. THEY'RE LOOSE. TIGHTEN THEM UP AND SEE IF IT HELPS, SURE HELPED ME. EVERYBODY THOUGHT THAT IT IS THE TYRANNY AND THEY EVEN THOUGHT THAT THE BOOTS ON MY STEERING THINGS WERE BROKEN. CHECK IT OUT AND SEE IF ITS THE HEADER.
My car makes the same noise. I rebuilt the head and put in a new OEM gasket and ARP studs and now it makes that noise. You need a valve adjustment sir.

my swap makes a VERY similar sound but only when its warming up,after that it goes away. It sounds like an erratic chattering noise.
Here is a sound clip of mine, quality is not that great but the mic is right over the dizzy and while i probably do need a valve adjustment this sound does not come from the valve cover area.
just save! http://www.we-todd-did-racing....DE%3D
