Contemplating NA build up.... What Intake Manifold to use?
Hey, while discussing performance options with a good friend, he was mentioning to me about getting a custom sheet metal IM made for NA rather than ITB's.
Although I have seen sheet metal intake manifolds, mainly for turbo cars (like the STR and Venom intake manifold), I am having difficulty seeing that a sheet metal single throttle body intake manifold can make more power than TWM ITB's.
I can see how they would make a better torque curve due with the way the runners would be designed, but compared to higher top-end, individual throttle bodies would seem to make way more higher HP.
This is of course talking wth matched cams with serious lift/duration.
The platform BTW is an H22A, but B series experience are most definitely welcome.
Thanks.

design your own man.....take to custom fab shop and tell them what's crackn'!! good luck and keep us posted if you do anything!!!
if u make a manifold with airhorns at the beginning of the runners inside the plenum, and a large enough throttlebody, with a properly designed plenum it can flow just as much as itbs. it will keep stock vacuum characteristics aswell.
that's what the manifold looks like with sheet metal
Brandon like I was telling you I think you should onsider a lot of factors mostly with if you want to make this a daily driver, weekend driver, or a full out drag car.
I'll compair your situation with how Erick Aguilar drags his car.
So Erick doesn't run ITB's or a custom JG manifold like your wanting but rather modified GSR manifold. He's also running a stroked B series with high compression in a EG coupe.
Brandon has a H22 in a EG hatch and is wanting to raise compression and get high lift high duration cams and full exhaust
I think you should stay with what's affordable. I know your wanting high HP but power to weight ratio is a concern here, your going to have mad crazy torque still with the JG manifold but you'll lose some with the ITB's. Also being what you feel on the butt dyno compaired to a # showing you have high HP. The only real thing you'd be able to control on the roads is Fuel pressure and timing where as with boost you can control how much CFM you want to explode.
traction is should be a big issue with you now, going with ITB's you'll lose torque but gain more HP at higher rev's and with the JG manifold you'll also have decent torque and nice HP.
Overall I think it's a personal opinion on what HP # you want out of your engine and if you want to drive your car daily instead of it being a trailor queen. Last but not least the driver will determine fast or slower 1/4 times and how well you can grab the road
good luck with the project I hope I ge to help with this swap like I did the EG and coupe H22 swap.
That manifold is damn nice and puts good things into prospective.
As for torque, with compression ratio, cam lift/duration, I don't think torque is much of an issue in terms of the H22 due to the stroke.
I am looking more into the high end and getting as much high end as possible, price is not really an option.
Oh well, I think I got it from here.
Any other input is much appreciated for those who are experienced with ITB's, custom NA manifolds and such.
TIA.

Ugh.......how can anyone with a concience spend money for something with Javier's name on it? Why not spend your money where it will go to someone honest?
Why not , erick's racing is still running an modified stock manifold with a single TB and is one of the fastest all motor cars
