Alright I just swapped out my old 22lb flywheel in favor of a 9.5lb Fidanza unit. I went to time it and smacked myself in the forehead. There are no timing marks on a Fidanza flywheel, nor does the flywheel actually extend over to were I'd be timming it so I don't think you can put marks on it.

The question is: How do you dial in timming without using the flywheel?

 

Ah...alright. This should be easy, but you confused me a little. Maybe Im the one that having the brain fart.
Dont you set timing with the crak pulley not the flywheel? The tabs that are on the lower cover and the crank pulley line up. It could be diff for the lude but I didnt think so.

 

actually on the newer fidanza flwyheels it has markign for both TDC and 15 BTDC. But older ones only have the markign for TDC, so what you would need is an adjustable timing gun that has a dial in the back of the gun for advacning and retarding.

 

my fidanza had marks...my old one didn't though. So what I did was: Turn the crank until the arrows on the cam gears are pointing up(TDC) I made sure it was really at TDC, and then took a marker and marked the flywheel. This sort of worked
The otherr option is to take the flywheel off, and line it up with the stocker and mark off the fidanza.

Yeah, that helped for the most part. So I make the mark for TDC at that little knotch thing you can see when you take the plug out and look at the flywheel?

To be more specific I set the engine at TDC. Then I make a mark on the flywheel straight across from the little tab in the bellhousing that you can see when you pull out the square rubber plug? That when when I turn my timing gun to 15 degrees it'll line up when I have it right and 18 degrees should be advanced 3 right?

 

i had to paint the marks on my clutchmaster flywheel with chrome paint so they would show up with the timing light.
