Yeah it will work with the stock (PM6) ECU - but you really need either a '90 or '91 PM6 if you want it to run the best w/that ECU. Other than that, you can use either the Z6 or Y8 headgasket (y8 is cheaper and thinner = higher CR). Use either the Z6 or Y8 timing belt as well (again, Y8 is cheaper). Other than that, pretty much everything should bolt up - but your A6 distributor is going to be way off.

It will work w/out any sort of vtec or fuel management. Problem is you'll constantly be running in the low camshaft lobe, and it's gonna be running too rich. If you get some sort of a vtec switch without any fuel management, it will run too lean during vtec. So either way it will work, but it's not going to live up to it's full potential.

Personally, I don't recommend Z6 mini-me's. If you're going to use the Z6 head, you should go for the entire package (Z6 longblock), and then convert to OBD-1. I wouldn't do it any other way. The Y8 head is a slightly different story though....

I answered to post like this awhile back and wrote my reasons why I would do it the way I would if I came across this. Do a search and hopefully my post will come up again. Im just too tired right now to explain myself again.

Basically, it sums up to what MR. TODD said. ( with added detail )

If anyone can find that link, please provide it for this gentleman
