JRSC install for 97SH
Hey guys, i was able to find an AMAZING deal on a JRSC... who knows if its stolen or not... but its 1500 for the SH kit with EVERYTHING included... picked up.. anyways... I have a97 SH, 72k miles.....with some serious oil burning issues... about 3-4 qts.... maybe even 5 in the summer per oil change... i guess that means i have some really bad piston rings.... well anyways.... its a dumb question that i'm pretty sure i know the answer to, i KNOW i'll be burning even MORE oil... but how much? am i expecting double what i'm burning now?
furthermore... i'm planning to do the install myself.... how difficult is the install? i'm pretty handy, and i SHOULD have all the right tools, other than the air tools.... which i dont think i need...... I know that i'll be in a lot of tight places, but will it be necessary for me to be working under the car? I've already briefly looked through the install from http://www.jacksonracing.com but i still dont have a good idea of how long or difficult this will be.
Any input will be appreciated, thanks!
so nobody knows if i'm gonna blow up my car or not? well does anyone have any install tips? or if there are any other threads to good install tips? I've searched for "JRSC install" and "supercharger install" in different orders already....
Good luck with the install, i installed mine myself too, it was 2 months of fun. Alot of little problems can occur when installing the charger, so make sure when you read the directions that you really know what they are talking about, and follow it step by step and dont skip around. If you want to know, if i could do it all over again, i would. I was fun taking apart my car and it was a learning ecperience, it cost me alot of money to get it running cause i accidedently knocked my timing off 6 teeth. But if that had never happen, it would have fired up and been running. Oh yeah one more thing, the JRSC EMS (engine management system) sucks. I would get the hondata system for your car, its a great tuning mod. Well good luck, and if you get stuck, ill try my best to help you out.
I am seriously considering buying a SC for my 98 lude... can a few people that have them in a 5th gen. tell me what they like and dislike about it... also... any tips like "get a hondata" or "get 2.5" exhaust"... thank you... also, anyone wanna sell one? or know of a good deal...? THANX.
i'm still working out a good time to do the install... my SC is actually just an impulse buy...... its 6 months old... like 6k miles on it... if you want to shoot me an offer... and it looks good... i SUPPOSED i could sell it... hehehe....

if you haven't installed the thing before or done any major work in that area, it's not going to fun. i actually don't burn much more oil after the blower was put on. 1500 for a jrsc kit is a good deal. i'd be somewhat cautious coz unlike a lot of other parts, there can be damage that you can't see right away and won't find out til it's too late. if i were you, i'd have a second car available through the install

If you are burning that much oil, I would seriously suggest doing a compression check and a leakdown test on your engine before you even buy the kit.
I didn't find the install to be very difficult, but you need to make sure you have the proper tools. In addition to those listed in the instrucitons, you will need various length extensions and u-joint sockets to reach some difficult areas when bolting down the blower. Read the instructions CAREFULLY several times before starting the install. It isn't the best written document, so make sure you understand the steps before you begin. GET YOURSELF A HELM MANUAL IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS INSTALL YOURSELF.
If you are going to run the JR FMU and electronics, you MUST get yourself some sort of fuel pressure gauge (either underhood or, preferably, and electric in-cabin gauge) to set your fuel pressures properly, as your fuel supply during boost is going to be rising fuel pressure. In-cabin gauge would be best because you really want to be able to monitor your fuel pressures during boost on a daily basis. You will need to get on a dyno with a wideband O2 setup to "tune" the car, that is get the fuel pressure and the BTC both dialed in properly. If you find that no amount of fuel pressure can get your a/f ratio to 12.5:1 or below (which has happened with the majority of lude JRSC setups), then the stock JR kit is inadequate for fueling properly on your car, and you will either have to live with that and take it easy with the car, or consider other engine management options (hondata, AEM EMS, ect).
