Possible AC Clutch Coil Problem
My daughter has a 1989 Honda Accord LX-i. Recently she has experienced a problem where fuse #5 (10 amp fuse) under the dash blows after the AC has been on for a few (10-15) minutes. The ac clutch, rear window defrost and some other controls are on this fuse, but it only seems to blow when the ac is on. I looked for an exposed wire, but have not found any. The compressor clutch will engage, so I am assuming the the clutch relay is alright. I checked the direction of current flow through the diode and found it to be alright. The only thing that I have found out of spec is the coil resistance in the ac clutch. The ac compressor is a Honda/Keihin and the specs indicate that the resistance should be 3.0 ohms =/- 0.3, but I found the resistance to be 2.0 ohms. Would this be off enough to blow the fuse? I have resisted the urge to move up to a 15 amp fuse because I do not know if the wiring would take the additional load. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.
