CRX hatch locking mechanism woes!!
Well I unlocked my hatch on my 88 crx and as I closed it and got in the car, the hatch light was on. I made numerous attempts at closing it and it wouldn't give. I even made sure that the lever that opens the hatch was all the way down and tried even more times to lock it and nothing. So this morning I drove it like that and when I parked I opened the hatch, jiggled with the locking mechanism, closed the hatch and BAM!! It finally closed!! Is this a common problem? Am I gonna have to replace the mechanism soon?

After my rear hatch window was bashed out I began to have the same problem. Instead of getting a new window,I just swapped the whole hatch out.
Yeh, my locking mechanism and all that is pretty loose down there. Sometimes mine won't close, or when it does the light stays on (sometimes).
I usually just slam it a few times till it shuts.
It's an off and on problem.
You're not alone.

Have you tried taking tools and adjusting it? I had a similar problem with
my rex but then i found out it was had been hit in the rear and the metal
was slightly distorted. A little 8 lbs "persuader" and I was back in biz.
Check it out..it may be something really simple.

for starters shoot some pb blaster in there or something to lube up the locking mechanism.
next make sure that the small tab isnt bent, or crooked.
Once the mechanism locks, i dont think that theres any way that it can just pop open. It would take a pothole the size of a volcano to do it.
