Default how safe is an ITR in the bay area?

i was debating buying an ITR but all this talk of ITR's bein stolen all over the place is kind of turning me away from it... is an ITR with just a clifford alarm or something really that vulnerable? or is it mostly in the NY area and such..... how bad is it in the bay area?

Too many Honda thugs in the bay area. NO an ITR is not safe as a daily driver in the Bay Area. San Fran/Oakland.

Some parts of the midwest are sorta safe for ITR ownership. But forget about the east and west coasts.

I agree, depends on where you are in the Bay Area. I won't take my car into SF or Oakland, eventhough I bought it in Oakland. I know more than a few people who live in and around SF with no problems so far, but a few very nice Rs have been stolen recently in the SF area.

I drive my R everyday, and other than jacked emblems, I have had no problems over the passed year. That doesn't mean I feel safe, it just means it hasn't been stolen. The R group in the Bay Area is great, and we are all over the place.

Atherton...as in Menlo Atherton...or is that a different city. Anyhow, I would think that a TypeR would be safe in that neighborhood. Outside of that area is a different story. I would not bring the car out to EPA, Oak-Town or the city and leave it alone for a few minutes day or night.

I say get a TypeR. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Heh, Atherton is a nice neighborhood. I keep my bro's R at times in Menlo Park and had no problems. Once I even parked it in the Mission in SF during dinner, no problems. Then again I suppose no one is going to jack it with tons of people around.

I presume if you live in Atherton you got a garage? An R is definitely pretty safe if you have a garage and live in an area like that (people in Palo Alto park their Supras, M3s and S-classes on the street). Especially if you have another car to drive on unsafe errands.

Hey Tarmac, not flamin. But Supra's, M3's, and, S-classes are nowhere nearly as hot for theft as ITR's. The last time I checked, none of those cars have parts that will fit in a Civic. And remember you have 1 BILLION Civics in Cali.

just don't park your car outside at night, get an autolock, maybe consider taking off the emblems before some ******* uses a screwdriver to to it... oh, and do your own oil changes!!!

What up with these fruggin emblems. Bunch of crackhead mother fawk. They can't afford 15 bucks for a cheap red one. Pretty damn sad. I park my R out side. They will have to tow my **** if they want it. Hahahahaha
Hahaha. My emblems got jacked within a few weeks of getting my car. I just left them off. FUQ those little biatches. I'm not replacing them so some other no-job wanna be can take them again.

Atherton in the North Bay is like Pebble Beach in the Monterey Bay. I don't even lock my car in Pebble Beach.

Well true, true. Where do you live at H? Atherton, it's practically a conpletely gated community with private driveways and huge houses. They don't even allow commerce - did you know that?

Atherton has a city ordinance that prohibits commerce - no stores in this city! Unbelievable. Of all the cities in the Bay Area, Atherton is probably the safest.

Question 1 for the original post - do you have a garage???

Man, talk about living in fear. It's only a fricking car. If you want an ITR, buy it. If it gets stolen, that's why you have insurance.

I think it really depends on where you take your car to in the Bay Area. If you constantly frequent the east side or places like Mercado where there are a ton of riceboys then yeah it's more dangerous. Probably the most important thing that you should do is keep your ITR garaged. I know a couple guys that have never had their ITR's messed with because they keep it in a garage. I use my car as a daily driver and park it at the garage at work and I've never had it messed with. In my opinion, San Francisco is okay to park at. There seem to be a bit less riceboys than in the South Bay.

The key is if you have a garage, use it and leave the garage door closed at all times. Don't let punks driving by see what you have. I also want to take off my emblems then have some punk put a nice screwdriver mark on the car. How do you cleanly remove the front emblem, I know it has the rivets?

Places to avoid: AMC Mercado and the Great Mall (please add any other places).

Did someone say bay area meet? Name the place and time.

Tarmac, I live in NYC. Actually my cars are both garaged up in westchester (posh suburb) and I daily drive an '84 Rabbit that has 243,000 miles on it, and a duct tape window! Gated communities are safe, no argument there. But here in the greater NYC area no ITR/GSR/SI left outdoors will survive. They WILL get it eventually if you leave it out. I learned that the hard way also. My '96 4 dr GSR got stolen a few years back.

Yes, they left some bad scratches when they took the front (the fools broke it and left half of it hanging), and a small dent on the rear. I was rear ended, and the shop replaced the rear one. I just left the front off for now, cus I don't want to worry about it again.

We have meets in the Bay Area about once a month. The last one was up at Blackhawk, but not too many showed. Next big meet is the BAAE 2 yr anniversary sometime in Oct., but we will probably have a small one this month also.

SF-ITRCA is having a gathering at LSIR this Sat. for the ALMS race. I will be at LSIR with friends on Sun, not sure if I will make Sat also though.

We usually have a weekly lunch gathering in Milpitas also. Let me know if you're interested, or e-mail me for info on the local groups.
