car theft in australia
It's clear that nearly every thread about Type R's getting stolen end up being several pages long....
Reading it makes it scary and difficult to make a decision... i havent signed the dotted line for that type r yet... but this is really getting on my nerves.
Whats your point of view of car thefts in australia? I guess this is a question for the aussies on this board. We got 600 type r's a year (i think) and our security systems and availability should be slightly different as well. Is the situation as hopeless as it is in the US ? To a point where people no longer want to attract the attension of this beautiful car. And removing those peices that give away the fact that it's a type r?
Thanks.

lordastro,
another aussie! welcome!!
The theft rate for ITR isn't that bad compared what it's like in the states, which is pretty bad. I mean the cut the car up into small little pieces then dump then on the hwy's! I'd cry if i saw that!
But other than that, in Australia, specially in Sydney, 2 things you got to worry about. They are your badges and your seats! I caught some ****'s trying to jack my badges when i still had my car. Had a few friends have there seats both ripped out in carparks... other than that, it's ok. But still, you have that feeling that someone's watching you and waiting for the right moment to do something to your pride and joy. If you got a lock up garage, then it should be ok, if your in the city, just park in a bright and busy place.
Which ITR are you looking into buying? the new DC5 or DC2?

Yeah i goto uni and it's a worry... i can either park in the busy place or the quiet, dark place on the bottom floor of the new car park. In the busy, well lit place there are people everywhere and it's unlikely people are gonna strip the car. But it's crowded with cars and people often scrape, scratch.. and worst of all, the dreaded door banging on the other door.
In the quiet place theirs less chance for anyone to do that sort of thing and it's out of the view of most people, but it's a haven for theives.
It's a tough choice
I know if i choose the busy place people WILL slam open their doors onto my baby..
I STILL havent signed the dotted line (this week probably), it's a choice between a BLACK 2000 ITR or YELLOW 2001 ITR. Most likely i'll get the 2001 yellow one.. the cars are brand new, it's a run out. And they're very nicely priced
What would you consider a 2001 ITR with air, 5y warranty cost? ON ROAD? Brand new with under 200k's in it.
My other concern is this "breaking in" thing with the car under 1000k's the cars been given alot of revving, so i should use that as an excuse to bargain down the price again

stick with the yellow. Black is boring and looks like a VTiR if you know what i mean.
How much are they asking for? since the car has been driven.. i'm thinking 39k or less?

hi lordastro
in regards to your questions, i wouldnt pay more than 42k
plus remeber this, the yellow r will scream out attention, which is good aswell as bad
in regards to theft, here in perth hardly any dc2 r's at all so hard to tell, just get an alarm and stuff, that will stop 95% of the theiefs, but remember the other 5% will get any car if they wont it
in regards to breaking in the car, the itr i trst drove was raped to death by me aswell as the salesman im sure heaps of times and it only had 300ks on the clock
i just say rev it a bit just dont be an absolute idoit and it will be fine, they run the engines in at the factory
overall get an itr, it will be the best decision u will ever make, it sure was for me
later

Okay so the deal's not as great as i expected.
I'll ask for alarm, locks for the 4 mags, floor mats, cd, it already comes with air. Anything else? =D
I'm gonna ask 40k for it, on road. 01 yellow type r with under 200kilometers in it. 5y warranty.

yo astro wat uni u go to? I go to sydney, will be driving my CW R to uni once i pick it up friday. you say that you have a choice between black and yellow, so i guess it is tynan you are buying from, I went there too looking for a white ITR. ask for $39-40k with mats and air and 5 year warranty. btw are you gonna get an alarm? Im thinking of getting a brant alarm, and there's a discount if 2 people get one at the same time. I hope my alarm is good enough to protect my seats and my badges
Yellow ITR with Yellow Recaro's.. very bright!
My friend has a 01 ITR and the worst thing is trying to keep the seats clean!
Before you buy the car, check to see how old the car is. Pop the bonnet and check out when the actual car was made. Would give you a rough idea how long the car has been floating around.
Why not pay an extra 4-5k and pick up the new DC5?

lol yeah man tell me about it! The first thing i thought when i saw those yellow recaros i thought "Oh **** this is a mighty big cleaning job". But it's either the yellow, easy to dirty seats, or the black and must-be-spotless 2000 type r they also got. I want the yellow 2001 one. And yeah i checked the dates, the 2001 yellow is was manufactured 2001 feb, received march 01, the black was only 3 months older. But hey, it's still a year model difference.
I better hurry up to the dealer tommorow and get that car PRONTO!
