Found this bike...

never laid down and clean title and the guy is from NY
He only wants 4k for it and is willing to ship for free!
Isn't this a lil TOO cheap to be true?

wayy too cheap. If he's willing to ship for free, thats like at least another $400 he's paying outta his pocket...so pretty much all he's getting is 3600. No way anyone would sell for that cheap.
see thats what I figured as well.. but he said he's willing to use an escrow service.. in fact he insisted we use escrow..
if i use an escrow service I should be ok right?

I'm still kind of confused.... if i use a REPUTABLE escrow company like escrow.com... how will I get ripped off? I thought I don't pay until i get the product.. whole point of escrow isn't it?

As long as you use a reputable escrow and have someone look it over seems like you would be fine.
On the other hand....
Also sounds like he may want to use escrow so badly so that if later you find something is wrong he can come back with "well we used escrow, you had a chance to look it over, you prob. fucked it up yourself"

good point. I'd spend the time and go over there. Look at the bike, look at his house, look at his wife and kids... then things will go over smoothly

very true.
or u could ask him for the VIN, and check it out... carfax/ or free vehicle history check. or something... research everything...
and if its all legit ... u could spend some extra money to go see it/pick it up urself, since u would be saving money on the whole thing anyway...

I say check out the VIN, than work from there.
If you like what he has to say with functionality and he gives you highly detailed pics, go for it.
Since it is cheaper, get a plain ticket (round trip), see it in person and maybe ride it. Than you take it to a shipping company and fly back home. Only thing you need is time. :D

There are a lot of these "ship bike from overseas" scams going on-- people were posting them on cycleforums every day for a while. Beware. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Someone tried to run a scam like this on me stating we use this escrow service he uses-insisting actually. Long story short-the escrow service instructed you to send payment in the form of cashier's check to somewhere in Guam-that's when I realized that the old saying "if it's too good to be true" is just that.
this bike your talking about was laid down.i read about it on cbrwolrd.net or something ,but yeah it was a f4i in NY for mad cheap.unless you specifically look at it and ride it i would stay away.

to update everyone, there are alot of fake bikes on ebay now and here lately, ppl are hacking into accounts and listing bogus bikes. so if something seems too good to be true...it probably is, just don't want any of you to find out the hard way
