Let me see your roll cages
I'm interested in roll cages. Let me see some from the back side and where each plate is welded to. Custom and pre-bent kits, it don't matter...
you guys think I should get a pre-bent kit right now, since I don't have money for a bender yet?

Thanks guys...how come some of the cages or bars I see have teh rear points going past the shock mounts? I've been told over and over again that this is not a good idea
I dunno honestly. Theres not many places to mount them. Theres the strut perch, theres the framerail itself (which is what yer talkin about) and right before the strut which is what i did. I used the position because theres an extra layer of metal in that spot, so it makes Its pretty durable. go knock on it with your hand and you will understand what i mean
here are some pics of a roadrace (4g) and rallycage (gti).. not drag race but the same principles apply when building a well designed cage.

one of the strongest points in a chassis and the best place to secure a cage are at the shock towers.. obviously that point of the chassis must be designed to support the loads of the car. plus you're allowing your rollcage become an integral part of your chassis to reduce flex.
also you'll see some cages with big bends in them 'floating' in space... maybe ok in a drag car but from a design perspective, you want to try to make every member straight and meet at the same point as other members to distribute the loads most efficiently. in case a member fails another member is there to 'back it up'..
play around with some dowels and glue.. you'll see what i mean

yeah no ****. I want what you got
Actually it doesn't have to be that fancy as long as I can pass tech and be safe, I don't care what it looks like.

check out 1320 performance site. All the work is done by Lo Vang. He does a pretty awesome job for the prices that he charges. those of you that are in the Nor Cal or the bay area give him a call if you want to have a roll cage done... Street of Strip. Five point roll bars to full tube chassis. anyway you want.

Of all the set-ups so far,I think yours looks the best Mike.Especially the way the rear bars mount to the strut towers
That's how Im gonna do mine.

thanks guys....
Jeff, I'm gonna do it myself, I think my 6 years of welding should be put to use. I can have it done up here too, but I'd like to do it myself
