This past weekend at the Fontana Event...
This past weekend in Fontana was a trying to say the least. From the get go…the forces from beyond were working against us. My buddy Max was competing in the Nopi Comp 4 Street Class, with his all-motor 93 Civic Hatch. Over the two-day event a total of six axles broke
. But that didn’t keep the car down. The car was hooking up amazingly with consistent 1.61 60’foots. This was made possible due to the fact that they let us race right after the Pro RWD cars and the amount of VHT being used for track preparation. The track itself was 2400ft. above sea level. With the on going axle issue during every pass…the times posted by the car were 12.2@80mph…coasting through the traps. Since the car was having axle problems on Saturday during the qualifying session, the car was taken back to the shop … worked on during the night hours and was back in action for the remainder of the event on Sunday. For every run, the hatch was a demon from hell out of the whole with ultra low 1.6 60’foots. The cars 1/8th mile times were also the fastest in its class, but it was at about this point in the track when the axles would decide to poop out on us. During the first round of elimination, the car hooked good out of the whole and another axle broke in second gear causing the car to jerk violently to the left and just coasted it to a 12.2. No clean runs were completed this weekend do the axle plague. The consistent reaction times were a great help in keeping the car in the winners circle for this event due to the drivetrain failure. Max was all about aggression this weekend. As he was quoted of saying, ”I DONT GIVE A CRAP WHAT I HAVE TO BREAK AS LONG AS I WIN THE EVENT.” Ha Ha Ha...Well, as of now drivetrain strengthening is underway with plans on participating in the upcoming NHRA event this weekend. Happy Motoring.
