Changed box now amp goes in to protect mode
I have two Orion 10" subs hooked up to the 5th ch. sub output on my Orion 5 channel amp. The amp sees about 2 ohms from the woofers total. I had the subs in a bandpass box originally designed for 2 MTX woofers. That box was too big and I finally decided to change boxes. I built a sealed box that fits in the spare tire well. Now when I turn the music up too loud and the bass gets really deep the amp goes into protect mode just for the second or two the bass is really deep. Then the amp comes back on. The only thing I changed was the box. I didn't add any thing else, or rewire anything either. The only thing I changed was the box.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I'll post pics of the new trunk set-up when it is finished.

You know I am not sure. I emailed Orion and I'll wait and see what they say. If it isn't then I can rewire the voice coils from 4 to 8 ohms.

are you running stereo or mono??? in other words if you are bridging the subs you might not wanna do that. if so unbridge them maybe turn the gain up a little inbetween half and 3/4 and tune with your deck.... you will lose a little bump you can do that or get an amp that is stable at 2 ohm bridged!
I guess you can't always trust a stereo shop. i took my set-up to a friends shop today and measured the woofers with a DMM. It turns out they had my 4 ohm DVC woofers wired parrallel and then bridged at the amp. The ohm load at the amp was 1.1 ohms on the single sub channel! No wonder the amp was getting so hot. So I seriesed the voice coils and then bridged them at the amp. Now the ohm load is more like 2.8 which is acceptable.
Thanks for your input everyone.

Good thing you did not smoke your amp

Says something about Orion quality, huh? I am impressed that their base model series, Cobalt, could handle 1 ohm pretty well.
