I have read in my Haynes manual that the tank is supposed to hold about 17 gallons, but after running my gas gauge beyond the E and having the low fuel light on for a little while, the most I can put in is just over 14 gallons. Can anyone else verify this and/or has enyone else actually got 17 gallons in their car? Just wondering. Thanx.

 

the gas light comes on with about 5 gals left, it is 17 gallons cause that's what honda says i doubt they are going to lie about that. the gas gauges on the 5th gens is also crap, mine is very inaccurate.

 

Yeah! If you were to run the car until the motor could no longer run from lack of fuel, then filled the car up, it would probably only fill up to about 15-16 gallons. There is always that gallon or two left in the tank that can't be picked up by the fuel pump.

 

i ran my car one time about 50 miles after the light came on in my 97, and when i filled up, it filled up 15.5 gallons of gas. i usually fill up about 10-20 miles after the light comes on and it takes right around 14 gallons or more to fill it up.

 

alot of autox dudes will drain the gas till the light comes on before they race, supposedly it's good for over 50 miles from that point.

 

the intank fuel pump is cooled by the gasonline, water condensation can occur if you run the car almost emtpy for a long period of time in the sun=water in the gas

you also pick up all the crap at the bottom of the tank which can clog the pump or fuel lines or the injectors. i fill mine up at about every 350 miles, cause my guage is off. that adds about 12 gallons.
