Default hatch is leaking!!!

My car is leaking when it rains in the back hatch. THe car was once in a wreck and a new quater panel was tacked in but not seam welded. i removed the rain gutter and the interior and but silicone in there but water seems to still slowly find its way in. Has anyone had this problem before???

the window grommet is perfect. I poured water all over the place. What is coming from is the rain gutter. There were holes where he tack welded the quater panel in. I filled those with silicone to be sure, maybe i missed a spot, but the water leaks from the middle of the rear window, and not the window seal, but actually from the roof above it. What kind of place could do this? I need to fix it and am tired of the musty smell, and I dont want to take my head liner off myself

pull the headliner and do you water test again... when u zero in on the exact place fix it... it is not hard to do i do it every winter/spring at work jst go to a body/paint supply shop..... you need to use some body sealant or urethane and make sure you clean the surface really good... the body shop didnt do that very well....

thanks for the replys, I am glad it doesnt need to be welded.

PS how hard is it to remove all the old gunk, becuase the previous guy did put this black tarish stuff under the rain gutter. I guess take a putty knife to it???

btw my car is in the primer stage so no need to worry about scratching the paint
