Default Civic Coupe Weight Reduction

Curious topic to many racers out there...obviously the lighter your car is the faster it'll get down the track. I was wondering if the carbon fiber products out there really are worth paying the money for if you're looking to reduce overall weight? Is buying Carbon Fiber bumpers, hoods, fenders, trunk lids really gonna make that big of a difference? Anyone know the weight differences between OEM parts and the CF parts listed below? Currently, my coupe is completely (averaged) gutted from the front seats back. No passanger seat, nor floor mats, rear plastic etc... what else can I do to lighten up my daily driven car? just trying to get idea's for next season... Thinking about removing door panels, center console, front bumper support next year...any other idea's...

Weight differences:
OEM Hood vs. Carbon Fiber Hood
OEM Fenders vs. Carbon Fiber Fenders
OEM Trunk Lid vs. Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid
OEM Front Lip vs. Carbon Fiber Front Lip
OEM Bumper vs. Carbon Fiber Bumper

lets rate these parts in terms of weight savings... IMO

hood
fenders
trunk lid
lip
bumper (cover)

thats the way that I see it.... most of those arent worth it... you wont be saving very much weight... the doors are one of the biggest wieght savings that you can do, but I would keep my factory doors if its a street car... (wouldnt feel safe without 'em)

hope this helps...

BTW: you can also do Fiberglass parts too, they save weight, and usually dont cost as much as CF

I've already removed the A/C (haven't removed the under the dash stuff) so I'll have to do that... I was thinking that the CF hood and trunk lid would be the biggest weight reducers though I thought I'd ask about the fenders, etc... Concering the PS pully, I usually remove the belt on race days, though use the PS for daily driveablity.

Can someone post up some Coupe weights that they have? It'll give me more of an idea what I could weight in at. I'll have to go weight my car once I get down to a empty tank again. btw, I have the porkey Si Coupe.

Also, does anyone have any pictures of the CF doors? Never heard of the FAL windows...

Lastly, I remember reading a post where someone actually weighed everything they took out of the car... (seat weighs X amount, back seats weigh X amount, etc..) does anyone know or remember where/what the link was? I can't find it... (you can never find what your looking for when your actually looking for the damn thing..lol)

i have also have a porky coupe. Its 99 dx coupe its weight stock is 2359 pounds. The weight reduction i have performed is carbon fiber hood, fully gutted from the rear seats back. plastic, sound deadoning, ect. i dont know what else i would want to take out....i was thinking fal windows or removing my a/c altogether but im not shure i love my a/c sometimes i hate SWAMP ***! I would never remove the front bumber support....ecspecially if its daily driven....did you remove that huge metal peice inbetween the seat belts? I still have mine in im thinking of removing it. Has anyone removed this and know how much it weighs?

I've thought about removing that peice, but I dunno if its holding the car together or not... Looks like it'd weight a lot though. Anyone taken this medal part out... its the part where your carpet ends between the back and front seats.

I will try to get Rhman19 to post a pic of my interior as it stands right now.

I am in the process of taking all of that sound deadening crap up, back seats, truck carpet, spare tire, jack, most of the carpet, firewall mat, a/c, p/s, lightwieght rims, all the plastic out of the back even rear deck everything from the front seats up has to be somewhat in tact though i don't know if i am gonna keep the radio in it either and i got a cage going in it. So i hope that helps.

this is the weight reduction i have done so far for my coupe. (6th gen EX )
remove a/c, P/S, cruise control,
remove all seats/panels when attending a race.
partial tar removal (trunk and back seats only).

future weight reduction:
complete removal of all tar and remove under dash a/c condensor
one piece front end (track use only)
remove bumper support (track use only)
get aftermarket steering wheel and get rid of airbags
remove sunroof and get insert(still debating that one).
light weight wheels.

here's the link to the weight reduction page:

i just removed that center peice that goes between the two front seat belts underneeth the back seat(three parts) Weighed in at 20.5 pounds....i was happy about the reduction....im guessing my coupe weighs in the range of 2200 pounds or so without me in it. Anyone know were any weigh stations are around the sfv area?

well I did a little more reduction last week and the car now weighed in at 2360lbs. Race season is now over for me so I'm gonna put everything back in the car most likely and when (or if) I do, I'll weight every peice and make a post outta it for future references..

My car weighed 2400 even with back seats, passenger front seat, spare tire etc removed, no driver. This was with my old DRAG 3 turbo kit and ac and ps still in. The AC is now out and am also going to try mad weight reduction on it. Keep the comments coming this will be saved in my notepad. Oh this was with a CF hood and no exhaust, with exhaust it was 2435
