zc vs d16a6 crank question
The tie down braket. Not sure the exact name of it.. but it is the long metal piece thats holds the crank down. Will one from a zc work on a A6. Thanks for all your help if you have info.
I think you are referring to the Main Cap. Is it the "bracket" pictured on the bottom right of this picture (the one with the bolts shown that go through it)?

Thanks for clearing that up for me Keithv</TD></TR></TABLE>
From what I can tell, the Main Cap girdle on both the ZC and A6 are the same. The oil pickup, which mounts to the Main Cap, are the same for the ZC and A6.

Main cap aren't the same, pick up is the same.
The main cap from d16a6 are made of steel and the top plate is aluminum. The ZC one is all made of aluminum. Is you project to put the d16a6 main cap on the Zc you'll have to machine the cap to use the same bearing as the block. I'll post you pics off the 2 différent main in a couple of hours.

I don't think it'll work because the bearing caps and block are bored together as one. if you mix and match blocks and bearing caps from different motors the caps may bolt in but as far as the bore, they won't match. You could do a little figurin with the bearings prolly, but the top and bottom bearings will most likely be different for each journal. But good luck though
Couldn't he just calcualte what bearings are needed but putting the cap on without a crank and measure the journal diameter and then measure the diameter of the crank.
It still could be off... You'd really have to measure the journals - even so, they could still be oblong or something like that. Simply mixing/matching the bearings might not do it. You're much better off sticking with the girdle designed for the block.

W3Rd I was thinking the same damn thing about the time I got to the 3rd reply. At least there are other smart peeps

Thanks guys. but what about the half moons that look almost like rod bearings that are on the main cap.. do i replace those and still get it bored and honed. Would not doing that cause the crank to rotate off balance or cause excess heat.
School me guys i am looking for some education.
thanks

you must be talking about the thrust washer. That's for end play on the crank. I think those are pretty musch standard for D-series. I could be wrong though.... anyone?
