I hate my car
everytime I fix something another thing breaks
I just broke my axle the other night and today when I put in a new one it doesn't go in all the way. Do I need do pound it in or what? A friend of mine told me to hit the end of it with a hammer. I feel like hitting the whole car with a hammer. I already kicked and punched it a few times. I love crx' but as soon as I fix it i'm getting rid of it and buying a newer car. I've had it with old cars

DX and Si axles are the same. They had 26 outer-splines. Only the HF had 23 outer-splines. 90-91 should be the same, 88-91 should be the same for that matter.

u gotta get grease at the end of the axle before u stick it in, grease it up real good, and when u do , make sure its all lined up, and just push it in, its gonna stop, and then u gotta pound it in until u feel a click, u should visiably see it from up top (take out batterY) and see the end of the spline part touch the edge of the tranny....if not, go and beat the **** out of the guy at NAPA....good luck

thats odd. I had a 26 spline axle on mine but it wouldnt fit. I went to the auto store and the guy asked me about a red mark, pink mark or yellow mark. I thought it was red and it was 26 splines. Didnt fit on my 1990 DX. Went back and got a pink on with 26 splines and it fit.
I pounded it in more. I don't know if it clicked or not. When I tried to drive it it make a loud clicking noise. could it be the axle's not in good or is my tranny bust?
When i replaced my axles, the driver side axle wasn't a problem, went in relatively easy. The passenger side was tough. It took 2 people pushing on it to finally get it to snap in.
If you do use a hammer, just be really careful. You do not want to hit the head to hard and mess up the threads.

i dont know which way your trying to put your axle on but try this if you havent already when installing axles. Put the end through the rotor first and thread the axle nut on the end. THen barely insert in the tranny and, holding on the rotor, "ram 'er home" so to speak. dont be afraid to really pop it in there. THis always works for me. THen again you may be doing this already, in which case i feel like a tard. good luck

lol, this is what I did once too, when I couldn't hold my frustration anymore and snapped. Then it worked!

Greasing it up really does help - any kind of automotive grease should work. If not that, at least coat the end with some motor oil.
Getting the axles in the tranny is really all about lining everything up. From the passengers side of the car, sit up facing the tranny (not completely under the car) and as close to it as possible. Hold the axle (at the inner CV joint) w/both hands, and make the little gap in the clip/ring facing upwards (i think its upwards, heh). Try and line up the splines on the axle as best as you can to the differential, and then finally shove it in with one big push.
If it's going in most of the way, but stopping a little less than an inch before completely going in, then it's the ring/clip that's holding things back. I wouldn't recomment hitting it with a hammer or using the hub & the entire axle as leverage. Just try and jiggle it around from underneath the car, while a buddy tries to push it in.
Either way, axles can be a pain bro - we all as brothers in Honda share your pain! Hah, just kidding
