Top Speed 4g vs 5g?!?!
Does the Final Drive have to do with this? I just noticed that the 4g VTEC uses a 4.27 FD and the 5g uses a 4.26FD.
Is that how 5g'ers get that extra 5mph up top?
The lower the number the higher the top speed?

the FDs are the same, 4.266 your one source is rounding when the other isn't.
Given equal final drive, the lower 5th gear number has a higher top speed.
5th gen = .812
4th gen = .870
5th gen has a higher top speed.

SUPPOSEDLY! But it isn't for most US cars, but it is for the JDM's.
Anyways, we were talkin about the gear ratios, not the ecu's limitations

And people say JDM is soooo dope.
JDM H22s top off at 120ish?!
Even the B16 is limited here. Not sure about the B18.
I still remember the look on my friends face when I tore past his modded DelSolVtec at 125ish like he hit his brakes......Silly speed limiters!!!

who cares about speed limiters unless its a track car?

Yeah, from what I have heard, there is a speed limiter on the JDM H22 at 115...all it takes though is a little modifying to the ECU to get rid of it though. I heard that there is even a VTEC controller out there now that you can buy and once you plug it in, the speed limiter is gone.
My chipped ECU gets the job done though.

I just put a 4th gen tranny in my 5th gen...
Old transmission (5th gen) 4000rpm@80mph
New transmission (4th gen) 4000rpm@72mph
Old transmission (5th gen) 5000rpm@100mph
New transmission (4th gen) 5000rpm@93mph
From that, you can kinda see the difference between the two and what it will be at top end...

Damn....thats a big difference.....
It also explains why I walked my friends 5g through the top of 3rd and all through 4th.....Then he slowly started gaining on me before we shut down!
5th gen tranny on my "TO-DO List"

Why would you want slower acceleration in exchange for a higher top speed? That's ridiculous!

Well, thats why I said "On my to-do list"........I think down the road I can sacrifice low end acceleration for top end.....(But do I really need to go faster than 145ish?)
I see your point though.....Why not use a crazy gear that tops out at 120ish but gets there real damn fast....
Balance is the real key though.....Like trying to mate rear-ends in my muscle car days.
Those 4.11's screamed off the line but had no top speed at all. The mid 3's were the place to be for both.

I checked up the specifics before, I don't know that their is it a speed limitation, however there is the fuel cut off, In my H23 the car stops at 129MPH. No more.
As far as H22 I would say no more then 135. H22 and H23 run on same tranny with same gear ratio's, correct? Thats what I believed all along.
Edit, I am talking about 4th gen's . 5th gen's me no no

hell yea it is! we do that around here theres a really long coutry road just outside the township, i top at 110 tho? i have a 92 Si, its stock, should i be making more than that? i didnt push to the end of 5th gear cuz i didnt wanna mess something up
for kicks i just recently got this car, much better then the avenger i had before

good topic by the way

No..H23 gears are longer. 2-5 anyway. The H22a is much shorter but has more rpms.
