my 97 RS has a noise that I can't figure out where it's coming from. The noise sounds like a loud winding noise. The sound only comes up when the car is in motion. The faster drive, the louder the sound. I've just change the oil, major tune up was done at 65k miles, and the car is at 75k. Could it be the belts or the wheels? or could it be an exhaust leak? any help to diagnoise it will be great.

 

When I think that I have an exhaust leak I just put the car on jackstands and get under it and have someone rev the engine a little and feel all the way around the exhaust. A lot of times its pretty obvious. But I thought that usually minor leaks sounds go away when the engine is revved higher? I don't know. But that might help eliminate that problem.

 

my friend told me that it's either the wheel bearing or the auto tranny. How do I test what or where the sound is coming from?
