type r's no contest. It is double the surface area. (probably close to double the air displacement)

yea, the type r's would definitely out hit, but if you got a 2nd w6 or even 2 w3's they'd out hit the type r's, and look up some specs on the w7 and you'll see why it hits so hard

More excursion = more volume of air moved

thats not much of a contest.. but.. if i was to pick.. i rather go with a 12w6v2 in a sealed box..JL makes impressive things... the w7 his hard becuz it has 3 inches of excursion where normal subs only have 1/2 to 1 inch i think jl always sound better tho SQ wise.. ported or sealed

but being that all things are constant, wouldnt that mean that the two type r's would be underpowered or the w6 would be overpowered and distort? with the type r's with a 1000 watt mono amp and the same amp to i w6, the w6 seems like it would be louder because its using more of its capacity. but i love type r's, i just had to be a *****

Yeah that's also true.. unless we're talkin about a set number of watts powering each sub.. like 400 watts for a 12" jl.. or 500 watts each on both alpine-Rs..

Don't forget about the dB (efficiency) rating. If the alpine has an equal dB to the JL, then they would both get just as loud as eachother with the same power (to an extent obviously once you exceed the RMS power.... NO comment on the SQ either question is "hit harder") SO if you had two of them then the alpines would have a higher combined dB and be louder.

Any one know the RMS for these two subs? I would think that the JL is not twice the RMS of the R's so you would have unused, wasted power, that would be used in the other set up.

Any one know the dB rating on these subs either.

keep in mind, high efficiency isn't always better. =p

an to the person above there that said something about using the sub to its capacity. its all about displacement. SPL is a function of displacement. as long as you're displacing more air than the other sub, who cares if its using its full capabilities. which is good, that means u can dump even more power and be happy. lol.

It is for midranges, but not subs

I would go with the sound you prefer. I you like sealed, get the 2 sealed subs. If you like ported then get one bad *** sub, some power and call it a day.

just get a 13w7 along with that mono 1k amp and you will be happy .. make sure its in a sealed box.. sealed always sounds better even in hard hitting bass

I know that high dB isn't always better, look at the audiobahn 10" it has a 96dB rating but that is all it has going for it

The 12" V2 in the H.O. box with a JL amp will in my opinion will hit harder than the R's

i don't know how audiobahn worked out their efficiency, but they are no where near 96db. more like 89db at most.

i second that.

and vteg will probably third? lol...

rod- who used to own a sealed (to JL's specs) 10W7 powered by a 500/1
then went to a ported enclosure with the same setup...box built by vteg

sub had WAAAAAAAAAAY more SPL (sounded like i had 2 or 3 in there)
and SQ was still great..imo better than sealed cuz i didn't get **** for bass sealed
and i turned up the bass boost and u know what that does...distorts sound.
ported (correctly) enclosure and no bass boost needed...

ask vteg how hard and CLEAN it hit. very accurate...on every note.

There is no way to get a ported 13w7 in the trunk of a lude unfortunately

Sealed my sound better to some, but the only place it hits harder is in the midbass range. If you want hard hitting bass below the mid 40's, port it. Girls will pay 50 cents for the ride

The 10 W7 uses 3 cubic ft ported. Having a 13 in almost anything that fits into small or mid size catagories will be a stretch.

I heard a 12w6v2 ported for the first time today, powered by a 500/1 in an Eclipse (hatch). Took my breath away at the SQ that acompanied the SPL. I would recomend this compaired to two sealed r's. I've heard two ported R's and they were louder but not as clear.

I know this is a complete turn from what I orginally said but the 12w6v2 I heard before was sealed. Ported rocks.
