Default Benson Balanced and Micropolished Cranks

Here is the deal. You send me your stock crank and I return it balanced and micropolished. Cost is $150 and this includes return shipping. This is good for any make or model of a 4 cylinder crank.

4 cylinder in line cranks are balanced by themselves. You do not add weights to the crank (like V-8's) as the weight would be 180 degrees apart from each other and make no difference to the balance. You never want to use the flywheel and pressure plate when balancing as you would throw your engine out of balance when you change clutches.
Most aftermarket clutches and flywheels come already balanced. I watched them made at ACT. Also aftermarket pistons and rods are prebalanced at the factory.
BTW, if the engine was a V-4, you would have to add the rotating weights to do the balance properly.

I think it is a waste of money and weakens the motor. Just my opinion..

If you try to fix it, they will grind the whole crank to 10 under. Then you have to pay for re heat treating. Bearings are harder to find and harder to fit. It is cheaper to buy another than to fix.

earl you wouldn't by chance have or know of a good condition b18c5 crank for sale (for which I would have you balance and micropolish...) for not too much$$$?

Though i do not know the specifics , from what I understand the c5 crank is better balanced. Of course it's not like I have had the two side by side to verify this...

The inner radius of the counterweights are thicker on the R cranks. "R" stamping is on one of the counterweights next to fillet of the main journal.

ITR crank is supposedly 4lbs heavier.

BTW earl, can you guys index blocks for straightline correctness?

This is one of the processes that makes Benson blocks right the first time. I would be interested to know if the other sleeving companies do this or not.

I'd be interested in seeing a brand new, factory crank indexed to see how far out of whack they are or are not.

How exactly are the cranks balanced? Do you just check to make sure that the throws are all 180 out? Or, just spin them on the twirly machine?

I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the GS-R crank we had micropolished and the oil holes chamfered.

1 pic of a rod journal

2 pics of main journals

i believe ITR crank has 8 counterweights and GSR has 4.
ITR is slightly heavier but more stable at higher RPM's of course.
