Hey, I just bought a 93 VTEC. I LOVE it sOOOOOOOOOOO much, I seriuosly liek cant keep myself out of it. I come up with excuses to drive anywhere, even take my little brother around...Anyway, i was in my friends GS-R the other day and we were on 405 near Kirkland...we got up to about 130, and i think he could go even faster..,.anyway, i havent had a chance to go really fast in the lude yet. What will it top out at? How fast have you guys gotten yours?

 

ive done about 140 in it , and had very little rpms to go

 

Just a quick reminder that when you do "try to achieve your top speed" make sure that no one else is in the vehicle so if you lose control and get into an accident, you don't kill anyone else besides yourself.
God forbid your little brother was in the car and something happened.

Things you should consider:

What happens if I get pulled over? (and how many nights am I going to spend in jail if i do?)

Are my tires rated high enough for these speeds?

Am I an experienced enough driver to be handling speeds so high on public roads?

If I break my car, will mommy and daddy buy me a new one?

What will happen if I hit someone else while going 130 MPH?

Too much bad **** can happen. Not flaming you or anything, but really... be careful. Speed is a thrill, but it can be extremely deadly too. Don't try to show off to your friends that you have a "fast car" and then have something really bad happen.

 

Very well said.. I used to have the need for top speed, but not anymore.. They pretty much max out at 140...

RPMS kinda max out to the point that you will not make anymore power..

What is a lot more fun then going 140 is doing 125 on a road course with the next corner being 40mph and 3 feet off the *** of someone else.. =~)

My 4th gen has been supposedly 165+. I've had the needle WAY buried, but the Cobra that I was racing said that he quit trying to catch me at 160~165mph. (He never caught me.)

As a side note, that wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done...

as another side note: Don't try this in a regular Prelude. Please.

 

what did you have your fuel-cut changed to? Or does it not kick-in in 5th gear?

 

Er, well, I have a 9-10k redline... fuel cutoff is appropriately matched. I really don't know what it is, cause my tach doesn't go that high!

 

I think they only get up to 140. All the 5th Gen. get up to 150. I've only done it once, and probably won't do it again.

 

165 MPH?! Holy $hit, that is fast...Yeah "ZJ Nizzle", the reason I asked was because I just got my car and haven't put on z-rated tires yet. I'm not dumb enough to try and top it out with normal tires on it. And my friends GS-R has the proper tires plus, he keeps an electronic tire pressure checker in his glove compartment and before we leave for anywhere, we check the tire pressure. I plan to get one for my lude. As far as expereience, you can NEVER have enough, but I got my old car (91 accord) to 120 more then once. Obviuosly You only go that fast when you know the hazars are as small as possible....You can never be to careful. Thanks for your concern though.

 

I don't know what was up with your Accord, but 4th gen EXs should reach a drag-limited top speed of 127 for the sedan and 129 for the coupe (due to it's slightly lower drag coefficient).

Why the hell you doing 135 with 3 other people in the car.. Your risking their lives along with your own! That is not something that I would be proud of doing..

 

Nope, I am positively sure that I got my accord up to 120. Infact, I did it at least twice. Ive had people with me both times, and they saw to. Suppose I shoulda taken a picture of the speedomter. It was a 1991 LX. Why, does your accord only go 110 or something?

I buried the my speedometer needle, and my rpm was at aroung 7300-7500...and at the same time I was rolling against a TWIN TURBO Z and he told me that I was rolling a little bit over 150- close to 155mph........

 

I remember when I had my 4g Prelude VTEC, in 5th gear when it hit the rev limiter it shut off at about 143-147mph (Stock Ecu) it was hard to tell since the neddle was burried, this was achieved racing a 92 Supra Turbo on Rt.50!

BTW: 160+ is ****** insane. 140 to 160 WAY more different than 40 to 60. Man, it's crazy. I don't recommend it unless you have your last will and testiment pre signed, and there is NO ONE around.
