Default Just wanted to know if this is a good buy?(didnt know what forum?)

Im might be buying this 93 Civic hatch Si with only 89k

The only problem is that it has a salvage title. It was bought from a auction missing the front end like bumper, hood, light. rear tail light, front seats, and thats bout it. but the owner who bought it from the auction replaced everything and add gsr front seats. he is trying to get $5000 for it. the car is in good condition and has new candy red paint job, motor looks real clean and runs perfect. It also has 2000 Si rims, mugen front lip, type r rear lip. The blue book value of it is $3345? I think he is asking to much, but need other opinoin on it.
I dont really know how salvage titles work, and if i want to sell it later, would it be harder to sell?
Just need some info from anyone
Thanks

a salvage title si hatch is not worth that much. And it is definitely harder to sell later on.

check for frame damage...

... check for tons of bondo... how's the transmission shift?

these are questions you gotta answer but there is no way he'll get 5k for that car...also, it's not worth its blue book value either

worth 2500 at most, salvaged title is usually half book value, nice miles though, check for odometer rollback.

I would ask why it was a slavage. Theft, flood, accident? At best i would go with everyone else and say $2500 on a good day.

Salvage for Theft

Stole front end and rear tail lights and front seats
But the car itself looks flawless.

from theft, that **** is OK
5 grand though, is very pricey even if it was a clean title, the max i would say is like 3 and thats if the car is FLAWLESS
good day

I'd say pick it up for $2000, no more than that otherwise your getting the bad deal in my opinion.

I understand it's got a few little toys and knick-knacks added to compensate, but it's an EG hatch, Si or not, it's "book" value is dropping month to month. Like stated earlier, look for bondo here and there, check out the tranny, check fluid levels, check anything and everything if your serious about picking up the car.

If the current owner says it's worth more cause of the "add-ons," that's his opinion. I don't think that adding a GT wing, super Medallion exhaust, and a stand-alone Engine Management system is worth much to people getting groceries or the dealer. Those are parts the current owner uses to customize their ride for THEIR use, most people in the car buying world could care less about Mugen...they're more focused on gas mileage, interior space, air conditioning, and roadside assistance, not racing parts.

Put it this way, if you got $5000 to spend, why not put a down payment on a NEW car? You could even pick up a used TURBO car like an FC3S for around $6000 here in Cali, will be much faster than an Si. Keep your options open!

WAY too much, you can find a clean Title for probably 2 grand less. Im in vancouver too, I go to auctions and for a small fee I could pick you up a car at auction
