Default Turbo.. Worth the money?

I have a 99 Teg LS stock, with 70k miles, is it worth to turbo charge it ?

what is better? super charge or turbo charge?

also what is the total cash will I need to spend on a turbo charge?

and what to expect on 0-60 miles time? and 1/4 time?

Thanks for your response in advance.

Id search around. Youll find alot of info by clicking that search button.

But really quick...

Turbo is better...especially for an LS. It is worth it to turbo it, yes.

Youll spend ~3 grand...more or less. Just a ballpark.

0-60? 1/4? How good of a driver are you? Search for that.

Oh yea - it sounds like youre relatively new to the game - so you need to do alot of research, because like power, turbo comes with alot of responsibility...you need to be sure youre prepared to deal with it. Its not just bolt on and have a good time - its complex, and a turbo setup, if not properly tuned, taken care of, and monitored, can really **** your car up. So set some goals for yourself, and learn from the smarter gentleman (and ladies) around here.

I agree with everything he just said. But for the sake of informing you, both turbo and superchargers have ups and downs. Mainly with turbo it is turbo lag, where the engine needs to rev up before the turbo makes good power. Superchargers it is having that extra pully (supercharger pully) so you lose power with the longer belt but it makes power all the time. It is really up to you, but for your LS I would highly recommend turbo over supercharger.

I have seen kits from about $1,200 to $3,000. Most GOOD kits are about $2,500-3,000. Just make sure you buy one worth your money cause here is where you "get what you pay for". Do the research. Don't blow up your engine.

Turbo is more worth it then a supercharger. You can purchase a Rev Hard kit (high quality) for around 2700-3000..if you are mechanically inclined you can install it yourself in about 10 hours or so give or take a few. Rev hard kits reccomend boosting no more then 7psi, which is, on average, 70 horse power untuned to the wheels. 1 psi = roughly 10 hp untuned. Tuning can gain you 10-30 more hp depending on what can be done and the experience of the tuner. Your 1/4th should drop you to the low 14's high 13's at best with a good driver. Make sure you have a good clutch. Stock will take a **** quickly. 0-60 time , my guess would be it would drop to about 6 seconds maybe better? not sure because of turbo lag. I personally am considering the rev hard kit and shoul dhave my car boosted by early next year..spring hopefully.

EDIT: also superchargers cost power. around 30 percent of the power it makes is required to turn that pulley. Where as a turbocharger there is almost no cost. It uses high flowing exhaust gases to spin the compressor/impellar.

worth is in the eye of the beholder. if youre mechanically inclined, then go for it. If you cant figure out check engine, overheating, timing, and other problems associated with moding, make sure you have a wallet to pay for the towing and mechanic fees...

Realistically, YOU should be the one telling us if its worth it for you.

turbo = drag
sc = autox

^ thats pretty basic and i dont want to go on a rant about the differences of the two. if you just want to have some fun, get the sc; but if youre a serious racer, get the turbo.

I would say yes if your motor is in good condition. Go Turbo https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=652869

Both will cost about the same Supercharger + bolt ons. We all know the end result, especially on the LS, Turbo hands down.

I've been here a week and already I know enough that this conversation has been beating to death. Super for carb motors, Turbo for smaller displacement, yadda yadda yadda

OK, this was in one of the other posts about turbos. Street_Kings posted it...

"My Old Civic:
Mugen Headers : 450.00
Mugen Exhaust : 450.00
AEM Cold Air Intake: 200.00
Total: 1100.00 Gain: 20 WHP

My New Teggy:
Custom Turbo Kit: 1500.00
Total: 1500.00 Gain: 150 WHP

Questions still?"

This statement alone told me it was worth it. Plus all the guys on here have been a HUGE help to me in learning exactly what I need for my custom kit. Especially BIGWIG and QUIKB18B, mad props to them for helping me with a shopping list for my kit and also recommending certain companies. Thanks guys. Also good luck with your research and hope you make your way to the darkside like I am because it sounds like a whole lot more fun! I'm hoping to be boosting by next summer or shortly thereafter.

turbo is addicting! its the best way to go with the LS. it kicks it pretty nice. i have a LS turbo set-up and everytime i think about goin back to stock, i back out. dont supercharge your LS.

expect to spend around $3500 for a good reliable, fast turbo set-up.

since you seem to be more concerned about 1/4 mile times, then turbo is the way to go for you. just make sure you learn every single tiny angle before you make your first step.

Definately go turbo.

If I were you i'd piece together a kit. You get what you want the first time, and you do your own research. Plus its usually cheaper and you get a more reliable setup.

with turbo...you can always upgrade until your satisfied, and you can always do something to go faster....

yes, and no. if you use FI in autox you get booted into a whole new category that anyone but an extremely experianced/good driver is going to have a lot of trouble doing good at.

autox is much more complicated then drag. drag is basicly car v. car
autox is driver/car v. driver/car =

AX takes alot more time planning and building your setup as well, if you add some miniscule part you end up in a differant category.

so the point of my rambling is this: READ a shitload before you do anything

heck, i usually post my question posts under every applicable topic. say i had a b18 civic and wanted to know something about a turbo; it would be under civic, teg, tech, and fi .
