Default Hatchback Cancer! Rust in Wheel Well - Need Help!!! (56k Maybe)

Like it says in the title, my car has the famous Cancer. The four letter word that we all hate; RUST. Passenger side 1/4 panel affected the most.

What can i do right now to slow down or prevent more rust till i get enough money to send it to a shop???

Team Steelie Represent.

TIA

um...i dont think there would be a temp fix for it since it has holes, i really dont know, but be warned you are going to pay a bunch for new panels to be welded in...

Same thing happened to me...

Except it wasnt where the sideskirts are.I went to my local body shop i was referred to and then they cut the rust out..sprayed metal in where they cut then put the body line in it. And put a gurantee that if it came back they would fix it for free. Total cost paint and all = $1300

Yes it will be like $350..if you let paint and bake do it

Put some oil or some protectant over it to slow the rusting. When you get the money, pay to have it done right and it'll never come back.

Most shops will want to sandblast the **** out of the rust till its all gone, bondo it, and call it a day. Its not the best method, and since you have holes they might not even be able to do it for you.

Any respectable body shop will be able to cut out the rust and weld fresh plates on. Thats your best bet; its going to be expensive, but anything done right often is.

there's nothing you can do. besides, anything you try, will likely speed up the process

the ONLY way to completely eliminate rust is to replace the panel. period. you can weld in new metal, you can sand blast, blah, blah... nothing will work. eventually the rust will come back

Some people like myself just bring it to Macco. They do a good job for me and cheap. Had about 3 cars there already. Some people might think macco is bad and say you get what you pay for. Take it to macco.

I used to work at an autobody shop and we would of charged between $400 and $500 CDN for the job. That is a simple 4 hour or less fix.

cough cough.... eh .. you're kidding right? you might get that price from a mom/pop joint. the paint will start fading after a year and i will bet $$ they won't warrantee the rust removal.

for quality body work you are going to have to pay big $$, especially if you want it to last.

if your cheep like me then this is what you do

grind all that rust away
slightly tap in the new metal edges
mix up some bondo and find some screen
apply screen and bondo
sand er down smooth
apply primer
buy spray paint (i found some that matched really good for my red hatch but i dont have the can anymore so idk what kind it was, just some cheep stuff)
wet sand
rubbing compound
polishing compound
wax

wait a year and do it all over again
