New To The Place and I gotta couple questions for ya....
Hey everyone I gotta say you all have a pretty nice board goin on here. I'm warning you all now... Im new to workin on hondas but Im not new to working on cars. I have a 1974 Plymouth Duster and a 1968 Dodge Dart GT and of course.. the reason Im here.. I have a 1991 Accord. Its a good car but as I am with all my cars I have the need for speed. Biggest problem being with this car is its high mileage(I just hit 180,000 a week ago) and when my parents had it they didnt take too good of care of it... although lol I drive it like a bat outa hell which prolly doesnt help too much haha. Any way my first question is on a engine with that many miles should I even bother with it? or should I save up and buy a low mileage engine?(I have to admit though swapping a engine out of a honda kinda scares me lol theres a lot of wires n such) What engines would fit my car? Also if I replace the engine what about the tranny? How do I look for problems and stuff?(its an automatic.. ) Tips on what you all think I should do would be great. Oh and some good referance manuals for engines swaps and stuff for Hondas would be awesome. Thanks for all the help. Talk to you later.
F22 huh... so thats what there called(really new to honda engines and terms.. sorry) is there any good points to F22s? There 2.2liters right? What should my compression be? If compressions still good what do you recomend I do for some upgrades to an older engine? Thanks again for the help. Talk to you later
heres an example:
f23a4
f=f series=accord engine(4-5-6th gen)
23=2.3 liter
a4=different from motor to motor(example: f22b1=vtec 5th gen, f23a5 non vtec 6th gen)
I have no idea about your motor, what year, what tirm, what engine code?
f22 is good with boost, you can get 250hp without breaking the bank.
they are cheap, alot of them.
the bad part-they are not powerful, high mileage, etc

I figured bolt on stuff didnt do much... How do I find out more about my engine? Whats the true key to opening up and getting power out of a Honda engine? Thanks again. talk to you later.

you could pick up a f22b1 (94-97 accord, sohc vtec, 145hp) for pretty cheap, or maybe a h23 (prelude, dohc, 160hp) for a little more. in a 91 accord both of those engines would make you car pretty quick, and both engines will handle a turbo pretty well.
if you have about $2200 you can drop in an h22a (prelude, dohc vtec, 200hp) and your car will be quick as hell.
other than that the only real performance option for your current engine is boost, but with that many miles i wouldnt really recommend putting that much money into it.
