There are two items that I have noticed and am starting to wonder about:

1. Sometimes when I lift off the throttle (say coasting into a red stoplight) I hear an odd kind of spooling sound that runs down in pitch. It was fairly soft until recently, but today it happened fairly loudly. The sound seems to come from just in front of the dashboard, but could also be deeper in the engine bay. This sound occurs with the tranny fully engaged and my foot isn't anywhere near the clutch pedal (it is not that spooling sound that some people hear when they engage the clutch).

2. When I get into my car, there is a creaking sound from the rear. Same sound if I manually bounce the car.

Any ideas folks?

I tend to agree with Mr. Knighton, Lots of noises from the ITR. If you do a search, everyone complains about weird noises in their R. You get use to it and eventually you dont hear them anymore, until somebody points it out Im thinking it is normal ITR noises you are hearing.

 

2) I think i know what you're talking about. My car does it too. From the rear left of the car right behind the drivers seat? It's weird, sometimes i close my door and i hear something, then if i'm not smooth off of first gear, it makes the same noise. But the odd thing is it only does that after i close the door. After it makes the noise once, it doesn't do it until i close the door again.

 

1. Car has 16k. As far as I know, neither gearbox nor LSD oil has been changed. I am taking it in for an oil change soon as it is, perhaps I should have them check that eh?

2. Hatch creaking....interesting. The noise only occurs when I first sit down in the car.

 

Yeah, ours does the same thing, sounds like it comes form around the fuel filler area??

2. I have heard that creaking noise before (once in a while). I think it is from setting the emergency brake. When I hear that noise, I go back into the car, reset the e-brake and the noise disappears...at least from my experience...
