Winter has arrived!
Hi!
Its mid-september, and the winter has arrived. I am located on the westcaost of Norway, and it tends to get pretty cold here. (-2C today). When moving towards zero degrees, our roads are being sprayed with salt to prevent ice, and salt isnt really healthy for the car in the long term. We can expect a 4 month total exposure of really salty water hitting our suspension and lover parts of the car.
My question is - how do you prepare your cars for the winter? Are there ways to prevent the exposure of salt, ice and other winter stuff?
This happened yesterday in Norway (30 cars, three ambulances) involved cos the road wasnt salted:

Ouch!
Not much that can be done about the effects of salt on the car other than a thorough waxing before time, except to try and spray-wash the underbody after really bad conditions and/or get a cheaper/disposable winter car.

There isn't any way you can prepare because you car should be undercoated from factory. When every you can get a chance to rinse out you car undercarriage with a hose at home or self service car wash, that's the best way to remove salt as frequently if weather permit.
Actually it was 40 cars involved in a total of 4 accidents on a 1 km stretch of road, heavy fog and icy roads in the morning rush
3 ambulances where involved in one of the accidents as they arrived on the scene, luckily no one got killed altough 9 people got hurt, 3 of them had serious injuries.
Studless Nokians are going on next week, only have to finish repainting my OEM wheels first as they where looking a bit tired after last winter.

Winter.. yes. well, it has arrived here, somewhat later then other places, I know.
Even tho Norway is a small country, its a looong country from south to north. When I say its -2c here now, it will be -10 to -20 c here in a month or so, depending og weather conditions.

the women there sure warm it up
if you have a garden hose and water sprinkler for a lawn...drive overtop of it and turn it on to help wash the salt off. Ideally you should scrub and use soap, but everything helps.
