Need Help with Crx motor choice - B16 or Ls/vtec
Hey, I'm working on a limited budget of approximately $3000 (give or take a couple of hundred) and I need help with a Crx. I'm thinking about buying an 1989 Crx Hf - converted to 91 Si, has bodykit, lightweight stages, some mods (muffler intake)etc. and most importantly it has a ls motor in it (140hp version) . My question is because I'm working on a limited budget - should I look for a cheaper crx and go b16 with it - and hope to pull something out there, or should I just buy a gsr head and go LS/Vtec. If I would go LS/Vtec - which head is better B16 or the GSR one? My goal is 300hp - so the ls/vtec seems more appealing hp wise and price wise. But I have heard of the unrealiability of this hybrid. I will need to drive this car to school and need it to last for at least 4 years. I would race it once in a while but not frequently (definetly wouldn't be an all out drag car) - I would like to achieve the 300hp via mostly motor (and possibly turbo) - not via nitrous etc. The other disadvantage of the ls/vtec I have heard of is the installation which is pretty difficult - I don't believe I can install the motor myself (does anyone know how much labor would cost?) I know it's alot of questions but I would like to know your input - thank you very much let me know (cdseller03@hotmail.com - email me thanks)
im my opinion, i wouldnt buy any CRX with a body kit. Just buy a stock shell for like 500$. And from all that I have read about LS/Vtec's, to do it right so your motor isnt breaking all the time, it ends up costing as much or more than a GSR swap. The LS/Vtec puts out some badass numbers though. If you want 300 hp, just do LS turbo i guess.
I agree, turbo the LS motor that's already in there. If you want some mean HP, then build it up with new rods & pistons, and invest in some good fuel management. You can hit almost 200HP to the wheels on stock internals with good fuel managment on the LS.
i would just get a b16 because ls/vtec has good midrange but thats where all it's power is. so you can't really rev it like a vtec motor should be reved. and you'll be fixing it all the time!!! no matter what people tell you.
p.s. if you are looking for 300HP you need a hell of a lot more than 3000 bucks! (hate to break it to you)
