Hood rub on 90 crx si w/ place racing motor mounts and B18C?
hi, sorry to post this twice but, i currently have a B16A in my 90 crx si. i hyrdrolocked the motor, and am getting a jdm b18c. im going to reuse the place racing motor mounts, and i was wondering if my hood would still close (because the b18 block is 7mm taller than the b16). I've searched and didn't come up with anything. i really dont feel like hacking the **** out of the inner skeleton of my hood cuz thats ghetto. any help would be appreciated.
Just some input, I've got a 89 JDM B16 in my 91 CRX Si, and it hits the hood like a ****. I have Hasport Billet Mounts. Granted the car was hit in the front before I purchased it...Later,
depending on the mounts, i haven't heard anything about place racing ones, the b18c has a taller head then the b16's so it may, but the only way to tell is to try it
I'm betting it wont be too big of a deal though if there is some contact

Pick One:
1.) SIR "Style" CF hood ( Bolts up to USDM FRONT END)
2.) SIR Front end Conversion
3.) JDM ZC HOOD (Either OEM or CF, your choice which bolts up to the USDM Front end also.)

90 dx hatch, b18c1, place racing mounts, VIS carbon hood; very SLIGHT bit of rubbing but nothing to worry about.
a B16 mount kit will place a B18C higher up then if you used a B18C mount kit, you will have to cut the hood, or get and aftermarket one

im not 100% sure but the hasport billet mounts sit the highest out of all of the mounts because they wanted to make sure that you have enough clearance for the oil pan.... its too bad they never thought about the hood clearance. i have a gsr block in my rex with stock hood totally cut out and its still rubbing all the time. im pretty sure im gonna just have a hole there in the hood by sometime next year.
but im saving up for the VIS usdm sir style CF hood which should look pretty f***in clean lol

If you are using the old style Place mounts, early Hasport design that was copied then it is pretty ghetto anyway, not saying you are ghetto just the design. Axle nightmare, way too far forward, '94 B18B1 rubs just slightly on part of the hood reinforcement in a 90 CRX, I can't remember if the B16 rubbed or not when I took it out of the car they came out of.
Well Hasports Billet mounts at least stick the engine back further in the engine bay so you have a little higher hoodline further back.

Actually they do make 2 different ones
one for use with the b18c still using the b18c timing belt side mount
then there is the regular b series mount kit which if you want to use it on a b18c you would have to take the motor mount on timing belt side from a jdm b16a sir1 or b18a and then mount it to the b18c to use the normal b series motor mount kit

</TD></TR></TABLE>although i cant recall what company, but there are or were 2 mount kits for the B series motors. the B18C's have a taller block then the B16's. if you bought the B16 mount kit and used to mount the B18C the hood would not clear the motor. this is the kit i would prefer because it doesnt place the engine to low for it to have ground clearence problems.
there was an honda tuning issue recently that briefly covered a B16B swap into a a 88-91 CRX Si, but instead swapping out a GS-R block. they discusss the hood clearence problems, and the mount kits in this article

As stated above the B18C's and the B16B motors are 7 mm taller then the B16 so if you use the placeracing B16 mounts and the hasport B16 mounts there will be hood clearence issues unless you get an SiR style CF hoof from fiber images or vis (I think makes one) or do a JDM front end conversion. If you use the B18 mount kit form hasport or placeracing then you won't have hood cleearence issues but you will have ground clearence issues. You can do either it is up to you, either cut up you hood or get the SiR style or dent your headers and or oilpan. so to answer your question you can use your placeracing B16 mounts but I would invest in a CF SiR style hoodunless you want to cut up your hood skeleton.

Hasport mounts DO place the motor higher than Place Racing mounts. But they also place the engine farther back, where there is more hood clearance. Currently, I have some rubbing on the valve cover of my B18C5 using the Place Racing kit. I will be swapping over to the Hasport Billet kit shortly. So I will see if this situation gets better or worse.

As far as I know, only Place Racing actually makes a GSR kit. Hasport does not. At least yet. Regardless, I would stay away from any of these types of kits on street cars. Because anything that is done to make for better hood clearance is going to make for less ground clearance. And this means scraping oilpans and headers on any obstruction bigger than a cigarette butt. The bottom line: hood clearance is easier to deal with than ground clearance. You can always cut away the support or get a different hood to make room for the valve cover.

i went from a b16 that didn't hit to a b18c bottom end and a b16 head and now it hits i have the newer 3 mount place racing kit.
