Default zc tranny question

ok, need a clutch for my zc tranny...do all d-series use the same clutch?
basically i'm lookin at act clutches and i want to know if the ones they have for the 90-91 crx will work. they say all but 4wd but i figured i'd be sure before i lay down my hard earned cash.

(yes, i searched, and got a bunch of half-*** answers)

thanks

The tranny dosen't matter. What flywheel do you have? Get a clutch to fit the flywheel.

Yes it does matter.
Ever try to bang a 20 spline clutch/flywheel onto a 21 spline tranny?
The 88 ZCs have 21 splines
If he knows his ZC tranny is an 89-91, then just getting the matching 90-91 flywheel/clutch is the right answer.

Okay, I'm going out on a limb so someone check me if I'm remembering this wrong.

The input shaft on a 88 is smooth, the 89 has one groove and the 90-91 has two grooves. Maybe. I think.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the ZC tranny's imput holes for the axles have a bigger hole than most other D-series since ZC tranny needs the intermediate shaft to work I think.

Davens: You've got it right. As much as I've been staring at L3 transmission lately, that's one thing that struck me - the groove(s) - or lack of - around the end of the input shaft.

Keith: You want numbers? We've got numbers! Go here:

http://crx.honda-perf.org/math/index.html

It's a tranny math calculator. Plug in all your pertinent info (transmission, tire size, etc.), and it will tell you what the RPMs and speed should be in whatever gears you choose. Compare that with your actual results, and you'll be able to figure out which transmission you've got. I used it to help me build my ZC/HF/Si hybrid transmission, and it definitely works as advertised! The real-world results I'm seeing are within a hair of the quoted results shown on the calculator.

I think the ZC transmission just uses a bigger axle seal on the driver's side. As far as I know, all the L3 transmissions actually go into identical cases - except the Civic AWD Wagon, of course. The actual hole in the case should be the same, but the hole in the SEAL is bigger for the intermediate shaft. I think.

Yep the 90-91 Clutch and flywheel will work with the 89 tranny.
