So since this still isn't working... I'll elaborate.

We replaced the head gasket on this motor. Got everything back together... the first time we tried to start the car it wouldn't start. And seemed like it flooded. So we let it sit over night with the spark plugs out. The next day we tested all the spark plugs for spark... they did. There are no codes on the ECU and I've checked the ICM and coil and all the numbers check out on the DMM.

We replaced the plugs and wires (they were old) and the car started up but died shortly after... and would not rev above 2k. It cranks fine.... I've gone over all the wires a few times.

I did read in one post that there is a ground wire on the thermostat housing... could that be the cause of it not starting? We are at a wall on this and don't know what else it could be.

If you want me to clarify anything some more please let me know.

Thanks for any help.

try using a different distributor and check all your ground wires.

oh yes! that reminds me... when I took the distributor off, there was blue **** inside 2 of the terminals where the spark plug wires connect to (on the outside) we cleaned all that out. On the inside there looks like there is carbon dust on the center of the distrubutor.

But we will try replacing that to see if maybe that clears it up.

Thanks for the reply.

Check your grounds, also the ground wire from the valve cover to the front frame,if it ran before and you reinstalled everything right it sound be some minor ground problems.

you sure you didnt throw off the timing? Check the firing order too.

it's difinatly not the timing or the firing order. We've verified that numerous times with different manuals. But thanks for the post.
