Caliper Bolts...
Hey, I was doing a brake job on my friends Rav 4 and i over tightened a caliper bolt and snapped it on accident...(yea screw you too lol jk
). The bolt im talking about is the bolt you take out to pivot the caliper up to take out the pads. Anyhoo we got another bolt with the same thread and rethreaded it to match the caliper bolt, and got a washer to match with it. It fits, and theres been no problems, but i was wondering if this might effect any long term problems if left too long without replacing with oem bolt?

as long as it is tight there should be no problems. This is not a load bearing bolt- it simply locates the caliper over the pads. The bolts that hold the pad bracket to the knuckle need to be strong. They are what take the force of braking. You should be ok.
Oh whew...thanks a bunch guys. Im not sure of the grade, but i heard that they dont take much stress, so at first i wasnt too worried, but i wanted to make sure, i dont like messing around with safety systems. So thanks a bunch, i'll get that oem bolt soon.
You should be fine..been there done that (not that I snapped the bolt but I LOST the damn bolt)...found another bolt at a hardware store for like 5 cents or so...used for 3 years now..no problem....
