Default JDM Y1 OEM LSD strength?

From what I have collected, all pre 92 B trannies (JDM 88-91) are notorious for being weaker... The diffs apparantly always go on them when racing.

I have a J1 tranny and need LSD, and am wondering how the OEM LSD units hold up to abuse.. I realize quaife is the best, but my question is, are the OEM LSD's from this tranny strong enough for some 200whp launches and driving?

the j1/s1 did not come with the lsd option, only the y1 came with that option(on the small shaft trannies) as well as the ys1(big shaft)! i would tell you to get a quaife lsd!

I know the J1 did not come with it, thats why my thread says Y1. I am just considering buying a Y1 and using the tranny since I know the condition of my tranny and I already have an LS 5th swapped in.

Do you have any experience with the LSD from the small shaft trannies or should I stay the hell away from them even with a quaife?

not only are they crap(reliability problems), where are you going to buy replacement parts for your jdm trannie! sell that Y1, and get a usdm or a jdm gsr ys1! i hope that clears it up for you

So a JDM GSR ys1 with a factory LSD is a good setup. If so what kind of hp can you put down with slicks?

The factory viscous LSD's fail at about the 230~240whp range.

Does anyone know of an article ont he difference between the big and small transmission.

I bought my swap from my work, Japan Direct, http://www.usedengine.com and it had a lsd trans but there is not a tag on so i have no idea what trans that i have. There has been some apparent work done to the set up(toda flywheel, spoon clutch, oil temp guage, oil pressure gauge) and some other stuff. So i am not sure what transmission i have. Was hoping for some help.
