its a 91, ZC powered. i was so happy to get it...well i have a few questions about it...the ZC engine is sohc i assume? because the size of the engine? it doesnt say dohc or sohc, but it has a black cover, and i hear black covered ones are dohc. And if its sohc, is there even much power in that engine? should i just build up the engine or go straight for a swap? i was thinking a type r engine or gsr, it will only take me 2 months to save up for another engine and i was just wondering what some of your peoples input is?..The owner put "Rack and pinion" steering on it since it wasnt power steering, what are pro's and cons about rack and pinion steering? is there anyway i can make it power steering? heh
thanks
thanks
i believe that the ZC is a Double Over Head Cam DOHC. As far as what you can do modifing or swaping motors... what do you want the car to be or do?

You're 16 I take it.
Don't change **** on your car just yet. Learn to drive it properly and read, learn and read some more (quality publications and internet sites) about what changes are actually good ones. Oh, quality publications does not = SuperStreet.
thanks

to tell whether or not its a ZC is to look at the passenger side of the engine in the middle near where it meets the transmission, it will tell you what engine you have...also the car comes with rack and pinnion and the older owner lied to you about him installing one...
because of that lie i would check your engine to make sure its a ZC and not a D16A6...if he lied about that i would ask for some money back for him being fraudalient...

take it easy on the guy he's new, well there are dohc and sochc zc's...the best way to find out is to look at the cam gears some how, if there's one, then its sohc, if there is 2, then its a dohc, u might have to open the "black" valve cover to check it...good luck, but with a zc, its fast enough, depending on what u want, but if u want somthing better, drop a B17 if u can find one, or throw in a B18A, and build it up for turbo....ur money is ur imagination man
man, i would recommend a gsr swap, i think type r's are overrated...but the important thing here is that this is YOUR car, not anyone else's. If you want to keep you engine fine, if you want to do a custom k20a swap, fine, its your car. You have to learn for yourself what you want and you also have to realize that there will always be someone who hates your car, and there will always be someone who loves your car. If you try to make the other people happy, you will never like your car, so, choose for yourself what kind of mods you want.
Back to your question...
I would choose the GSR engine because of the extra displacement + vtec + DOHC. However, you must realize the engine is only 1/2 the cost of a swap. You also are going to need motor mounts, shift linkage, and probably a new ecu (or ecu conversion). If you plan to do the swap yourself, good luck, and when u get it accomplished, be proud of yourself. If you plan to let a shop do it, labor can become very expensive very fast. It also seemed like you had a good source of income because of the short amount of time it would take you to save for the swap, therefore, i would recommend replaceing the clutch, water pump, oil, filter, and belts just to be safe. The best swaps are those that are planned out well.
Good luck

This is my DOHC ZC. If yours doesn't look like this it is SOHC. If the valve cover looks smaller than this it is probably SOHC.
How to read the engine code...

everyone's giving this kid way too detailed info on how to tell if his engine is a dual or single cam motor. he's obvioulsy very new to cars so don't bombard him with really technical info just yet, start off with the basics, then move up. The answer is VISUAL
Kid, look at the top of the motor. You should be able to tell in less than a second if it's SOHC or DOHC. Does it look like the motor pictured above? If it does, then it's a DOHC motor. All DOHC Honda motors have the plugs in the center and a nice flat wide valve cover. The distribiter is connected on the intake cam. A single cam motor has a MUCH narrower valve cover. Go onto eBay and search the 2 valve covers and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Save your money and don't do a motor swap.
Don't put power steering in. The CRX is light enough that it's not needed.
