Default NASA Time Trials anyone?

I was poking around the NASA site and found this about the Time Trials http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/tt.html. Anyone heard of this or participate in this? It doesn't really explain how it's organized unfortunatly. Just looking for some info on it, it looks interesting.

There are 5 run groups available. The level of preparation determines where you get put. For example, my CRX is in TTE because of the modifications that it has. If it were totally stock it would be TTF. The events are organized such that you run against the clock with other cars on track. NASA Ohio-Indiana and NASA Virginia both use Transponders to time you. You can rent or buy this device.
Hope this gets you started.

So basically it's like a timed HPDE? How popular is it in your area? I've never heard of it here on the west coast before.

The classing system and rules can be found here:

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/2003_tt.pdf

As for how the Time Trials are ran it varies from region to region. This was the first year for time trials, so I would expect things to change as this new sort of competition grows. I ran some TT events with both the VA region and the OH/IN region this year.

The VA region only ran TT events at the Hyper-fest weekends. We had our own run group were we were on the track with all other TT cars. Passing was permitted only on the straits, however no points were needed. I believe they kept track of how many points each TT driver had total for the year. (I think there was 3 or 4 total events for the year?), then they did or are going to give out some sort of end of year trophy. I know we had about 13 cars total at BeaveRun and Summit, and we all had a good time.

The OH/IN region has been running TT events as part of their normal race & HPDE weekends as of late in the year. We run in HPDE4 group. Unlike the VA region we could pass anywhere on the track, without a point. They would give out a plaque/trophy for the winners of each class at the end of the weekend, thus it’s not really a points total like they do in the VA region over the year. There is a trophy for each weekend.

Anyway, I hope that helps. I’m sure we will see more of the TT events next year, and I can’t wait! It’s really fun when you have several people in your class who are all within a second of each other.

O-ya.. you have to be singed off by an instructor before you can run in TT.
