Default 1/4 ET ?

I'm looking at an '88 CRX with a B18 C-5 ITR engine. Performance mods include Muller flywheel, UR crank pulley, Exedy clutch, Mugen chip PWO, 2.25" cat-back, Rota 16x7 wheels with Falken tires, and Neuspeed N2 4-2-1 header.

Seller's estimated hp is 220 w/ mods (even though estimated hp doesn't mean jack sht until proven on dyno) and it weighs about 1900lbs with stripped rear. Anyway, seller's best time in the quarter was a 13.8 @ 97mph. Seems a bit slow to me. Coming from the world of 240sx's, I'm used to that time on a lightly modded SR20 or KAT in a full-interior 240sx, which weighs about 2700lbs. BTW a red-top SR20 has 205hp.

If a 205hp 2700lb 240sx can run high 13's with a good driver, shouldn't a 220hp 1900lb CRX be able to run quite a bit better? 15 more (estomated ) hp and 800lb less...

Anyway, I'm just curious. Looking for a daily driver/weekend toy and happen to come across this particular CRX.

If he's claiming 220 hp and only running 13.8's, either he doesn't know how to drive or the motor is really untuned. With the C5 alone, he should be near mid 13's or lower.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I bet he just can't drive, but I could be wrong. He didn't seem like he knew godly amounts about cars in general, so he may not know how to drive it right.

Is there anything to look for when test driving it? Anything to give an indication that the engine isn't tuned properly?

I still bet he spun like mad, being FWD with 200+ hp and an open diff (?)....

He also mentioned that 3rd gear grinds a tiny bit....about how much am I looking to spend for an ITR tranny, or something that will suffice?

that motor should hit 12's with good tires and those mods.

A 97mph trap speed does not indicate 220whp., especially in a 1900lb Crx no matter what kind of traction he's getting or lack thereof.

220 hp wheel or crank is highly unlikely with those mods.

Raene ran 97-98 mph with a nearly stock JDM B16A. No way is that motor putting out 220 hp.

13.6 @ 98mph is a normal time for a B16 powered CRX

A B18C5 unmodified should get you down the 1320 quite a bit faster... hmmm

now you're speaking about relativity...a "normal" time for a b16 power crx in palmdale is a low 15 due to the elevation, crappy track conditions, and the fact that there's a slight grade going down (or up rather) most of the track...i ran a 14.9 here. i went to fontana, a lower elevation and a little better track, and ran a 14.2...

i've never heard of a STOCK b16 crx running a 13.6...i could see that being feasible in a completely stripped/gutted 1st gen, but not in a "normal" 2nd gen...

where was that time run?

The seller is in Washington state, and that's where he ran a 13.8...

Thanks for the help...I'll talk to him a little bit more and see whats up!

Here's a couple pics of the car...

What does having a filter right on the TB do for performance? I'm assuming you get more flow...but why would everyone buy intakes like AEM if all they need is a drop in filter? Just askin.

Thanks,
Vince

Nah no open diff, an ITR tranny has LSD.

Because they're too cheap to buy a pipe?

I can't think of any good reason. The point of having a long tube is to allow flow to become laminar. With that short of an intake path flow will become very turbulent, and it's sucking air from the hot engine bay .

i dont see a slave cylinder in that engine bay, so i highly doubt he is rockin a type r tranny, prolly just an open-diff cable

In fact, I think I do see a clutch cable.

um, i dont think a crx with a b18c5 would weigh 1900 lbs, even with a stripped rear. The rear crap weighs like 30lbs AT MOST, and the b18 adds like 100 lbs to the car as it is. Car would weigh more like 2100lbs.

As for 1/4 mile time, i dont know, but weight sounded off.

Wieght drivers skill temp track conditions elevation play a huge part in the cars performence. There is a possiblity it could be a type R tranny. Hed have to of taken all the guts out of the current B series cable tranny and put in the hydros guts. I doubt he did though.

Musta been a hot run, but I've seen those times in LS/VTEC equipped CRX's at Palmdale (Hai from Jacob's Garage). FFD will always suck on launch-It should even be called launch for us, more like limp off the line, watch out fer wheel sping, wait til the car gets going then PUNCH it. By then the FRD next to you is gone!

look man, when you want to find out how fast a car is, let me give you a clue on a good measure. Your trap speed is a direct relation to how fast your car is. A car that runs 13.9@101 is going to be faster from a roll than a car that runs 13.8@97. If he had 220hp in his CRX he would not be trapping at 97mph. With 220hp I would put him trapping maybe at 110-115. I don't know anything about B18-C5 trap times and someone would have to chime in but 97mph seems low for a trap with a CRX running a C5 motor. 97mph is B16 times. I could be wrong, but always look at trap speeds, it's the key to who u can hustle at the street races but watch out for the awd boys, they trap low.

u suck at driving if u ran a 15.0@98, nothing else to the story.......if you think 98mph trap speeds with 15 second times are normal u got another thing coming.

2 things, ********.

6 puck ACT setup with eXtreme pressure plate + semi-**** tires = mad wheel spin, no slipping the clutch. 2.4 60ft time spinning all through 2 and half of 3rd.

only my 2nd night ever running @ the track, and my times were consistently dropping after each run until I snapped an axle.

No **** thats not a normal trap speed, any fucktard could have told you that. The time however, is just about right for a b16 swapped CRX.

My trap should have put me low 14s easily.

So maybe I don't have another thing coming eh? Think before you open your mouth, douchebag.
