OT: I love valentine one
sent in my unit because everytime i turned it on it would go beserk and warn me of 5 KA bands everywhere...but it would still work. But anyway it kept falsing, so isent it in...i was past warranty so i send in a 45 dollar work order fee too...
i got it back today, looks like they replaced a lot of components...and they did it for free too! since i didnt "abuse it" and it was due to normal "wear and tear" it was a free service. im really happy.
btw, Valentine One kicks ***.

How is it compared to other comparable products? (In same price area)
I've heard only good reviews on the Valentine One, I hope it's just not marketing. I would like to invest some dollars into one myself, but it does carry a hefty pricetag.

in terms of performance, u can go to their site, http://www.valentine1.com
they have a whole demonstration and write up about how radar/laser works, how the V1 works, how other detectors work.
mike valentine recently just offered a trial period or something like that, since the escort 8500 claimed to be the best on the market so Valentine is offereing a 30 day trial period or something or other
edit: sorry it was the passport...here it is from the site:
V1 leaves Passport 8500 in the dust. But don't take my word for it. Try them both and see for yourself.
V1 has a money-back guarantee if you're not delighted in the first 30 days. Same for Passport 8500. Why not do your own test? Send back the loser for a full refund. Do your part for truth in advertising and drive into the future with proven defense gear.
See Do-it-yourself Detector Tests for tips on testing.
Their ad says "Detect the Difference." Let's get it on.
Here's their number: 1 800-588-4784
For V1, call 1 800-331-3030 or click on Our Store.

I have the latest model, and it saves me money every day. All other detectors pale in comparison. If you have noticed Escort's claim of "World's Best," note that it is from some website called http://www.radartest.com , and I doubt their credibility. Most likely, they were offered financial persuasion by Escort. Mike Valentine used to be a head engineer for Escort, and when magazines do detector tests and experiments, they consult Mike Valentine.
itr 269...yeah apparently the guy who maintains radartest.com has some beef w/ Valentine and is an idiot.
and ein, if that's all that's stopping u then jut get it. I dont think a v2 is coming out (anytime soon anyway) and even if it does u can return ur unit for a v2 spec upgrade for free if its within the warranty period...not like ur gonna need anything better than the v1 anyway

Yep, only reason I haven't ordered mine is because I'm sure there's a new unit coming out soon and don't wnt to be outdated. I hope they make the new unit smaller and lighter, the V1 is awefully huge.
the v1 isn't that bad. i put mine right next to my rear view, and other than the wire going straight down to the lighter thing, it doesnt bother me at all.
well ill be upset when the new v1 (or v2) comes out but the v1 will still be perfectly fine IMO

There is revised thinner version of the V1 out, so if size is an issue.
But I really don't want to get stuck with an older piece of equipment after spending that much money.

Heh, you guys and yer fancy toys. I used to use a Cobra 9850. Worked fine, had a compass, talked, it was good. I dunno, I've used almost every detector out on the market (except the V1) and in the end I always just end up not using a detector at all.
I dunno, something about a $400 detector that just bothers me...I mean come on $400...you can get an attorney to fight your ticket for $100.

Like i said, its saved my *** enough times already so I really wouldn't care too much if a V2 came out...as for 400 dollars, yeah its a pretty steep price but hey 100 dollars for an attorney + time wasted at court + possibility of being found guilty anyway = i'd rather use a v1 and just not get caught....I'm not saying using a radar detector makes you invincibile but IMO i feel its a good thing to have....
edit: and if you do alot of highyway driving then its a great friend. my friends and I were going to albany from NYC in 2 different cars....at 4 am....he was ahead we were doin about 90 or so...my detector went off, so i flashed him and we slowed to 55, and about 1/2-3/4 mile later, we see this cop ALL the way back behind the treeline, totally concealed. heh heh heh
later on, he said his detector didnt go off till he was practically past the cop (radio shack model )
so...that's happened to me more times than i can count...so to ME its worth it...if ur only usig ur R as a weekend cruiser, or racer, or just back and forth to work locally then of course its not really a good investment..

v1 works wonders on long trips. like all my trip to race tracks in california on I-5 (straight as an arrow). it will warn literally 1-2 miles ahead. often time i slow down way too early. heheh.
it makes speeding much more relaxing. having to constantly scanning for popo is tiring. no more.
and my previous speeding tickets would have easily been avoided if i had v1. $400 bucks is a sticker shocker initially but it's worth every penny. anyone whos owned a v1 will tell you they love theirs.
my v1 is mounted right below the rear view mirror:

I didnt evne know how much radars run for... JESUS ****** CHRIST 400 bucks, and even if your not driving and you decide to park your car somewhere if a cop is a superdick walking to your car to give it a front plate ticket and sees the radar you get a radar discrabler ticket for that **** too...
there's a difference between radar SCRAMBLERS/JAMMERS which are illegal, and radar DETECTORS. IT's your right to know when ur being observed under radar. Therfore, its completely legal for you to own and operate a radar detector, except for the State of Virginia which prohibits use, and Washington D.C. which prohibits posession. Any other state is perfectly fine and if u do get a ticket then u can easily defeat it. I've been pulled over many times (not for speeding, but bullshit tix) and they never said anything about my detector.

I find that now that I don't use a radar detector at all I at least pay a lot more attention and look around a lot more for cops.

put it this way, i've been licensed for about 11 years. first 8-9 years just 1 ticket. but in 1999 i had a really bad year. like 3 tickets in 1 year (and 2 tickets in 2 days). two could've been easily avoided if i had v1. one was paced, which i fought by myself, and did a damn good job at the trial (even the cop that wrote me up said wow good job), but judge was super biased and found me guilty anyway. i would've asked for a retrial but 30 days passed and i was out of luck.
you guys that think $400 is high, i know it is a sticker shock. but a 90 mph ticket would cost you around $300 if you lose. 99% of all v1 owner aren't complaining because it save our asses all the times. and the ones who aren't happy (rare), return it in 30 days you're safe. i should say it is not all that useful in town because x band are everywhere, but if you travel out side of town at all it will be worth it.
v1 are sold directly and non of us get paid to say this. we just like the product because it is everything advertised to be.
heck, why am i bothering with this. i love my v1. end of story.

don't think this has been said but if you're stressing about paying $400, then just drive the speed limits. That's easy, but we all drive faster within a certain limit (common sense limit). Anyways, it is very useful while driving on trips as that has been said before. The V2 is soon to come and will be more aestheticly pleasing. Even if you get the V1, it can be upgraded to V2 spec. I am driving like a grandma until I can afford the V2 when it comes out! For now, I be at the speed limit!
Frank, I noticed you mentioned contesting a ticket you got from a cop that paced you. What is the best approach to a case like this? Besides getting as many extensions as possible??? I tried to IM you, but you've disabled that function. Please help!
