Default 86mm bore and keeping streetable... is it possible?

okay the title i meant keeping streetable, but anyway, i have a b18a block that im getting resleeved... i was recommended to go with a 85.5 or 86mm bore... i want to keep the car streetable which means not always needing race gas, should i go with this big of a bore? if so what compression pistons to where i get the most power i want while being streetable!?

yes it it totally possible...just get some good compression pistons for whatever setup you are running and take into account what octane gas you have in your area...

i belive 93 is the highest we have around here, what compression pistons should i go with? 11.5:1 or can u run 12:1 on that?

I'd go with 85mm sleeves. This will leave you 1mm to bore/hone if needed later w/o resleeving again. Your piston selection should be based in part on which cams you intend to run and how high you plan to rev it. Think of the final project before you spend anything or you'll end up with components that don't necessarily work well together. I went with 85mm GEM sleeves, 12.5:1 JE pistons, flat valves, and Crower cams(B18C1 motor). This is actually around 12.2:1 static c/r, but with the compression loss of the cams I end up 11.5:1ish dynamic c/r. Cylinder PSI is around 285@1k feet.

I use 92 or 93 octane fuel.

unless is a drag only , then 85mm should be more then enough with some nice 12.5CR on your 93 octane ... Imagine 12.8CR on 91

cough up a couple extra bucks...like 50 or so and get some cp pistons(around 12:1) and go w/ something like probe, cunningham when it comes to rods..spend a lil more now and save a lot later

I'd go with 85mm sleeves. That will leave you 1mm to bore or hone if you need to later w/o having to get it resleeved again

whats the logic there? if he has a problem with 85, what makes you think 86 will be succesful? And even if he startedat 86, you can still go larger from there w/o resleeving.

Personally, I would bore it out to one big *** piston.

If you run 86mm bore pistons, your sleeves are already paper thin. Bore the sleeves even more, you'll run into a great chance of headgasket not sealing properly. I think the maximum all-the-shelf headgasket available is 86mm bore. Anything larger, you'll need to have one custom made as well.
