trying to decide on my compression ratio and bore size... please help
i have a b18a block that im sending to golden eagle to get sleeved. i've been trying to decide on bore size... i've been thinking 84.5mm and then i could go JE 84.5 pistons which would be 11.5:1 or i can bore to 85mm and get 12:1, my concern is i want to be able to use pump gas, what route should i go? this is obviously gonna be an all motor ls/vtec with b16 head and i basically want to go as crazy as possible without needing pump gas.... help is greatly appreciated
don't let compresion ration dictate your bore size. Pick a bore size and then find the piston manufacturer that will make your desired compresion ration for you in teh bore size that you have already selected. More info on your valve train is needed to make a better decision on what compresion to run. As for bore I would leave it at 84 mm that way you have wuite a few bores left in the block seeing as how you want to run high compresion on the street. I would use 84mm 12.5-1 IB spec pistons, and Toda spec C cams. The large primary lobes will make the engine more resistant to detonation by lowering dynamic compresion, and the 12.5 mm of lift in VTEC will love the 12.5-1. With hondata and some pulled timing pump gas will not be a problem . Just make sure to use a 370 or 440 injector to compensate for the bigger bore. MOre injector is always better b/c you can take away fuel more effectively than you can add it via high fuel pressures. Hope this helps
