Default Am I crazy?

Instead of trying to build up the B18B1 block I already have, I decided to do some research on how much it would cost to build a block from the ground up. Well, I ran into this -

This is an LS-Vtec motor from DH racing:

This is the same motor that motivates our 9sec Civic. It comes fully built turn key ready for your Honda or Acura to rip up your local track.

*Complete long block, does not include turbo...

Motor comes bored, honed, hot tanked, decked and fully blueprinted. Oversized Low Compression Arias Pistons, Eagle/Stock Rods. Ported Head with 3 angle Valve job.

Full Swap is available for $7200 coming with ported intake manifold, 72MM bore throttle body, mounts, tranny, ECU, lightened flywheel, 6 puck clutch, distributor and a Dh-Racing Power Pulley that provides dyno proven 10%WHP alone.

I can get the engine block alone for $5k. I dont need the $7200 package.

Am I crazy? Would it be cheaper to buy a B18C1 and do the same stuff (clean it, bore it, machine it and mount the head, etc?) Are there better suggestions?

I'm not really too sure... I would figure you could build a short block for cheaper than that and with better internals... I haven't had to build a motor yet, but friends of mine who have have spent in the area of $2,000 for a fully sleeved and built short block...

Id personally buy a short block and do the build yourself. That way you get the right set up for you, and not someone elses setup.

How much does it cost to balance and blueprint the engine? My other option is build an insane turbo B18B1. But I'd rather start from the ground up instead of ******* with my only car.

That's a little pricey, but since it's including the tranny and some other stuff, it's about right. Not to mention you'll pay for labor.

Import Builder's engines cost about 5K dollars just for the longblock. Some cost more.

I however, do not understand why they are running low compression pistons on an LSVTEC. That is a total oxymoron. If you boost, LSVTEC isn't for you.
