buying new tires..
It's time for me to get new tires, and I was wondering what anyone out there would reccomend. I live in Toronto, so snow is an issue, but I'm looking into all season. I have Kuhmo's right now, but I am not too happy with their snow performance. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I have stock rims, so 185-60-14's, maybe going to 195-60-14's. Thanks..
I had some Nitto NT460s in 185/60/14 and really liked the tires. They are just some all season tires, not high performance or anything. You should be able to find em online for around $42 a tire or somewhere around there.
I threw a set of the motomaster predator tires on my spare 14 rims...
They're cheap for a reason, DON'T buy them.
I also don't recommend a 195/60 profile. They handle like crap on the dry, and if you wanna have snow traction the width will not help you. If anything it will hinder your traction potential.
Stick with the 185's for now.

195/60/14 Azenis rock in the dry... not so much in the wet at low tread depth... but you have to be kidding me if you think 195/60 hurts your handles... every CRX in HPDE's runs them... so do the 2.5RS crew, the integra guys, even the WRX crowd... Its a great HP tire even if it has high side walls. Azenis are stiff walled anyway. the only way you get tire wall wear on these tires is if you run way too low in the air preasure area... promise.

if you are looking for all seasons to use in the WINTER, then go with the 185 series. the 195 series is a wider tire, and in the snow you want thinner tires. as for brand, i personally don't know. i have always just thrown studded snows on my crx, and this year my civic, and used falkens in the summer for racing.
Go buy some stock 13" steelies at the junkyard. Should be less than $50 for all four. Buy some winter tires for them. 13" winter tires are cheap and you can get them at Wal-Mart or the equivalent.
Now go buy some Azenis for your standard alloys. 14" Azenis are insanely cheap for a performance tire. I got my last set for $45 each. They are easily the best performance for the money. Hell, even when money isn't concerned they'll hold their own.
You now have the best of both worlds instead of a tenuous compromise that delivers mediocre performance in both extremes

LOL! That's the exact setup I have, Motomaster Predators on a 195/60R14... my mom's Geo Metro has more cornering + braking traction than I do (not joking) especially in the rain. They LICK.

For my money its the Bridgestone S03. They rock dry or wet! I could get the RSX to do a bunch of stuff with the S03 that other tires would not! They were WAY better then the Yokohama Parada!!
Bummer, doesn't look like they offer it in that size...

I have uniroyal tigerpaw's, the Ice and Snow ones, since i also live in canada, about 4 hours north of you, so I know what its like to have bad tires in snow. Overall, i love these tires, last winter, i had no trouble at all with them. I have the 195/60/13(i have the original steelies for my winter wheels)
overall, for the price you're paying for them(about $50-$60 canadian), they're a great tire.

Yokohama makes a 14" ES 100, which is a GREAT wet/dry weather tire, and got good reviews on tire rack in the snow also, but it's definitely not a "snow" tire by any means.
BEST TIRES I EVER HAD WERE DUNLOP SP SPORT 8000, AWESOME WET TRACTION, THOUGH NEVER DROVE IN SNOW, AND GOOD SIZE FOR 14'S
195-55-14 WILL FIT YOUR RIMS, ABOUT 100.00 A PIECE

I had them. Decent tire but I'll be going Azenis soon.
Last time I checked they were around $75 a piece. (Dunlop)

Best snow tire hands down would be the Bridgestone Blizzaks. I have used those and they are great you stick right to the road no problem but the tread is so soft that if you drive them year round you will be getting tires quite frequently. I would say pick up a set of crappy steelies and throw the Blizzaks on them and use them just for the winter. I would say get all 4 Blizzaks but you could get away with just the fronts if you really wanted to. I could fish tale in my CRX put those on all four tires no fish tailing (which may or may not be a good thing??!!) and stuck right to the road.
