Default is this a good buy??

my friend is thinking about selling his 99 kawasaki 500R and he'll sell it to me for $1000. it's been dropped like 2 times. once at a dead stop and once at like 5 mph. i've never ridden abike and i really want one. is this a good beginner bike?? i'm not too concerned about speed all that much and i'm not sure i'm read for a 600 to start out with. let me know what ay'll think. thanx

Do it.

I wish I were in your shoes. The local dealership wants to sell me a Ninja 250 with a busted fairing and no turn signals for $1750.

Chances are that you will drop the bike too so why not buy a bike that's already met the ground a couple times. Also, a 500cc bike is a very good beginner bike IMO.

it belongs to my friend.....he took very good care of it....vept for the times he dropped it. but other than that i think it is in tip top shape. there are minor things that have to be changed or looked at but nothing major. i mean it is driveable. he still rides it alot. he just needs something bigger. he is like 6ft 6"

Good deal, that bike should go for something in the mid to upper $2xxx. That's assuming no problems or excessive mileage of course. And at least decent maintenance. Btw, that bike should have had a valve adjustment done by now.
