Default One more maniac on the roads!!!

Ok kids...I just dumped my SI and ponied up the cash for an 01-ITR...one of the last ones available in my neck of the woods. Now I need some suggestions...

1. What is the best rev to launch at? ( I got roasted by buddies's 540i and I figure I should be able to keep up to him till we hit third )

2. As far as I/H/E...what do you guys suggest?

3. The lingo...I know, I know i'm retarded, but I figure the fastest way to learn is to ask questions...I've read quite a few of these posts and I keep seeing 4.1 JDM pop up...can someone shed some light? What does this mean?

That should be enough to garner a bevy of honest answers as well as a few smart-*** comments I'm sure (try to keep these to a minimum, please)

Thanx

First Off welcome to the Club

1.) Im not big into Drag racing but I will let you know a few people here that can help you off the top of my head, SgT (Steve) Lip (Jeff) TypeR0207 (Rick)

2.) Intake - I suggest either just a Comptech Drop in filter or an Icebox system from them
Header - IMO Spoon #1 If you want to spend a little more money you can go for the Hitech unit, The JDM 4-1 is the 98 Spec Japanese Integra Type R Header that came stock on the 98-01 ITR's over there Its a good step up from the stock US unit. Any of the JDM units (and hitech) will need a larger 2.5" Cat
Exhaust - Not much power will be made with one usually only 3-4hp There are many good designs out there A few of my favorites being the Spoon N1 or Street, 5Zigen Fireball, Mugen Twinloop, HiTech Twinloop, and many more

3.) 4-1 JDM is explained above in #2, JDM means Japanese Domestic Market which means a product car part etc that is Japan only the same goes for USDM CDM UKDM and on and on

Somebody will tell you to drive the car for a while and see what it can do before you go and modify it, I'll go ahead and beat them to it. They'll also tell you to do a search, but you may have already done that. And they will also tell you welcome to Honda-Tech.

I agree with TypeRmsm.

Word to the wise: Make sure you break in the motor properly before flailing on it.
It will get faster as you put some mileage on it and the rings/bearings seat.

Enjoy and welcome to the club.

I don't think a stock type R will ever beat a 540 manual - ever. Sorry.

Welcome aboard!

First mod, trade in the heavy red seats for a black set. It turns out that I have a pair that I can swap with you

Seriously, I would break in the engine for at least 2000+ kms first before you do some hard drag racing.

WOW!!! Thanx to all for the info and the hospitality. (quite a friendly bunch!!)

I have put approx 3500 K's on the car and it is time for the first oil change. Here's the question...natural vs. synthetic???

I had put synthetic in my 98 SI because a buddy told me to, but then I read an article in SCC that said there was no real benefit to switching it just cost more $$.

Any advice? ( I hope this question is 'techy' enough, I don't want to get punted on my second day!!)

There's quite a bit of debate about synth. oil vs. dino oil. I use synth. I think the biggest advantage comes when (and if) you sell the car you can say "nothing but synthetic since the first oil change".
