Cant pass emissions car dumping too much gas.
Ok well ive got a 98 civic hb with a 98 gsr engine. And i cant pass the Hydrocarbon part of the emission test which means its running rich. Its supposedly got a type R computer cant tell for sure cause the sticker has been removed. But i know that the car is dumping about 15% too much fuel at a raised idle. My question is is it the type R computer or something else. I couldnt imagine the type R computer dumping that much more gas. And just too make sure. Can you even use the type R computer in a civic hb with a gsr engine. But any help would help.

You can use it but it will run like crap. If you have the stock GSR inlet manifold and are using a P73 ECU then you would more than likely be running lean at the high idle test as your secondary inlet runners will remain open from start up, letting too much air into teh mixture. Take out the ECU and open it up, inside along one edge, you should see the ECU number. If it is a P73 then borrow someones P72 to get you through the test and then go about sorting your own ECU out.
So the type R computer will make my car run lean? Now im really lost. The type R has higher compression right so wouldnt that require more fuel. Im also in colorado less air. Damn this sucks. I was reading the apexi website and came across some thing that said the computer will go into a limp mode if the car thinks there is boost entering the engine and will dump 12-15% more fuel how could this be without turbo?
