Default Which LS Block is the best to do Ls/vtec?

I have found a couple 90-93 for pretty cheap but im just curious would it be best performance wise to go with a 94+ or even an OBD2 block, this motor will be going in a 2000 si with a si tranny head...

If they are the same block what is the difference with the B18A as opposed to the B18B?

Isnt the 90-93 the B18A? and the 94+ blocks are b18b right?

the only differences are in the head

90-91 are even different from the 92-93, the differences are in the head

94-00 are same everything at 92-93 basically except hydro trans.... blocks are same throughout.... but if you can get a newer block by all means get a newer one unless you plan on changing internals anyways....

the difference between the LS's motor are as:

90-91 B18A motor...ODB0 130 hp (poor head design/combustion/ports)
92-93 B18A motor...ODB1 140 hp (better head design)
94-95 B18B motor...ODB1 140 hp (same thing)
96-01 B18B motor...ODB2 143 hp (don't know how they got that extra 3 hp)

So whats the reason that the sleeves always crack? I don't see how this can happen unless your always beating on it. Is it because the sleeves are so thin becuase its bored to 84mm?

I think you guys are all wrong about the block. I believe the B18A's have knock-sensors and the B18B's do not, or vice-versa. But the blocks are not identical.

Time for an EKology 'Learnage' session

B18A blocks do not have knock sensors (won't matter if you use p28) and they also have the PCV system on the block (like all other B-Series VTEC motors), while B20 & B18B have them on valvecover.
