Do you guys think that wet handling can be improved by decreasing tire pressure a couple of pounds? If not what would do the trick?

 

On a stock tire, you mean? I don't see why not. Just drop a few psi on your tires. However, I really don't see any gain if you hit a puddle of water... it'll hydro-plane no matter what. Just be careful w/ your stockies... (I run 712's for daily driving... good wet-traction).

 

Wet is wet, and by nature will reduce traction of course. While I am sure that there would be some gain by reducing tire pressure (this is, of course, assuming that your tire pressures are currently set at optimum for dry conditions), I am not sure that you would see enough of an increase in performance to make it worth the time it would take to bring it down, then up again after conditions dried out.

Now if you are asking this question for a performance (e.g. autocross, drag racing, whatever), then of course experiment and see what works. But for every day street driving, I would much rather just slow down and drive more carefully when it is wet out than worry about adjusting car setup especially for the particular weather conditions for that day.

Cos: I run the 712s as well, and love them in the wet! A night and day improvement over the stock Potenzas. Just got to run them at 38F 36R.

 

Yeah I was talking about for autox. I'll give it a try, I know they break loose easier in the wet if the pressure is higher.
