Nasty brown smoke????
Alright folks, I am still breaking my engine in. It was running funny, so I put some fuel injector cleaner in it with some more gas, and I let it run for awhile. I took it up and down the street a couple of times til it was warmed up good. Then I parked it and let it run. It started smoking. I got scared and thought that the head was blown again, but it slowed after about 5-6 minutes. Then as I was hitting the gas, it would release reddish brown smoke. It looks kinda like mud. Anyone know what this could be?
This is the stock engine in the 91 Civic HB. I just had a new head gasket put on it.

Which fuel injector cleaner did u put in?? How much gas did u put in when u added the cleaner? Never really seen the color of smoke u described, but most likely has to do with the cleaner.
Sounds like i could be carbon burning. Especially since you put the cleaner in there which would break it up, and of course, burn it off.
Plus, you said it's a '91, so I'm sure it had plenty of carbon. I've never seen the smoke like that either, but this is a possibility. Anyone else?

I used Lucas fuel injector cleaner. I think that it is rust coming from somewhere. That is the color of the stuff coming out of my pipe. I checked the oil and antifreeze and they are fine. I am thinking that maybe it is my old muffler. I am changing that very soon.
